Mine went from £950 to £2250 although I had one years more NCD. Needless to say I told them to poke it and eventually got it down to £850. Shop around!!

Insurers are the biggest sharks out.

Just moved house and three months into my policy. The girlfriend renews her insurance, which timed nicely with the house move, with Sheila's Wheels and her 61 plate Z4 drops from £900 to £550. I thought great, maybe mine will drop too with the postcode change!

Phoned my insurers, and also wanted to advise them that there was an additional security device fitted to my car. Expecting a rebate, I was most disappointed, cost me another £1.69! Wonder why I bothered renewing the additional security on the car, which as I see it is for their f'ing benefit more than mine!!!

Hmm... I think I'll keep quiet about my recent renewal for 327 then.
Doh! ;)

Worth playing with things such as excess, annual mileages and stuff.
Remember cheaper to park on drive than garage (in most 'safe' areas).

i would add to that list to remember to depreciate the car's value each year - insurers sure as hell will if it gets nicked

why cheaper on drive than garage? I can understand road cheaper than drive as thieves don't know which house to break into to nick keys, but hidden in a garage surely better than on drive?

37, 9 year Ncb, southampton, drive, 1 non fault claim (2k), 0 points.
10k miles, SDP no commuting or business.

If the place you live is 'nice' then you have more risk of hitting the car going in and out the garage or paint tin falling off a shelf than a scrote nickin it.
(Interestingly I typed 'scrote' into iPhone and it auto corrected to 'actor')
Always change cars value on renewal.
No point insuring over what it's worth as insurance won't pay out above market value

Aged 60
Fully comp
14 years NCD, protected.
Thatcham factory fitted Cat 1
Retired
3 points (SP30)
No claims in last 5 years
Social use only
1 named driver, no criminal history, no illness that has to be reported to the DVLA
Kept in residential car park
10,000 miles a year
Informed them of 'non standard' exhaust and tinted windows all round
£700 combined excess

£800 !!!!

No point in telling them anything but 100% the truth in case of accident resulting in death and you're proved to be 'at fault,' as they will try anything to get out of paying out !!!

Like somebody said above, its well worth playing with all the options to see what works out better; who would have thought that it's cheaper to park on the road than on a drive or in a garage? It all comes down to whether more claims are made by people who garage their cars or those kept on roads etc.
Adding my wife to my policy reduced it by £100 even though she is younger and has less experience.
Getting 3 points for speeding reduced it by £50!!!!
I renewed recently for £390 with protected NCD and 3 points. 2 years ago I was paying £1100 with no protection and no points. Go figure! I did move out of London though but even still, when I told my insurers I moved they said it made difference, then the following year it went down to £680 then halved again this year (renewed in August).
