Farewell for now...

After 2.5 years and 36K miles I handed over the keys to the RS4 on Friday......

It's probably the best all round car I've had so far and it will be sorely missed but I normally get itchy feet after 12 months so this has been a record length of ownership for me!

Picked up a new Disco 4 HSE (black, privacy, gloss black alloys) on Friday which I love. Its so different it's not even a comparison but it ticks the boxes I need at the moment for work and family. Am looking forward to a test drive in the B8 RS4 and could be tempted to get one next year as for me it would be perfect combo with the Disco - funds permitting!

My car is for sale at Fontain now if anyone's interested, I just decided on the quick and safe sale (especially as I had some bawbags sniffing around the car at 3am a couple of weekends ago....).

Oh dear a disco!!! my mate had one got through 7k worth of warranty work in 2 years good luck, I owned a range rover sport supercharged for 3 months hated it would not buy one ever again, sorry but I reckon you will be bored within six months

I've had LR products before and know that they're never going to be hitting the top of the reliability lists but for what I need it's spot on... I've had my share of problems with them also in the past but fingers crossed the Disco will be slightly better and I love them for what they are, so no I don't think I'll be bored....

It's not going to replace the RS4 from a drivers perspective hence will be looking to see what the B8s are like. Also thinking a 1M Coupe or Cayman R as the 2nd fun car would be a good change....

Great to hear from you Jon even if its due to the news you have parted with the RS4. You put up with the sports suspension plus in the end then?! Good of Fontain to take it as a straight sale. If you fancy a B8 RS4, get your name down on the order / waiting list!

Just got shut of a Disco 4
4 breakdowns with battery failure
Smoking like a train on start up
Lost patience and faith in the end after they took the body off to replace the turbos and it still didn't cure the smoke.
The next step was a replacement engine - that's on a car with 25k
Shocking reliability
In 20 years of motoring I've never had a breakdown I had 4 in 3 months with the LR
And LR customer services didn't give a crap
Car spent at least 9 weeks of the road with various faults
Good luck mate hope you have better luck than I did
If its a 10 plate HSE TDV6 then check for blue smoke on start up

Ian - hello mate, how are you? Yes I put up with the SS+ but still think it's too harsh for most of the UK roads....other than that a fabulous car!

Timster - yes, that's right. It was originally imported from a German dealer, full UK spec hence the 2008 reg. I bought it in 2010 with 20K on the clock and full UK ASH, Has since been pampered by Rob and his team at Camberley.

Roy - were you on the Disco forums? If so I think I saw your farewell thread and the pic of your RS - nearly PMd you to say you're going to really enjoy the RS Doesn't actually sound like you had too many problems for a Disco....... Will keep an eye on it though, it's a 62 plate, not that this will make much difference....

I knew I'd get some positive feedback when I mentioned the 'D' word......

I'd really like to get a LR Defender (it's a mid-life crisis thing). Is the Defender reliability as bad as the Discovery ?

Timster, I got a price from Rob at Fontain that I was happy with (and they were very easy to deal with in fairness), albeit obviously less than I potentially could have got privately but to be honest I don't/didn't have the time or indeed inclination right now to try and sell privately. I got a bit spooked by disturbing some scumbags a couple of weekends ago sniffing around the car/house at 3am and that made up my mind just to crack on and sell the RS. It's one thing when you're on your own or living with mates, it's another when you've got wife and small people to consider should scumbags enter the house.

I've had plenty of fun in Defenders over the years back up in Scotland and they are great fun if used as intended, but pretty agricultural TBH the rest of the time. Yes, I imagine that on pure stats they are as unreliable as a Disco... A very good family friend was special events co-ordinator for the Camel Trophy for 5 years and as a kid I remember going out in his Ex Camel Trophy Defender 110 and having a whale of a time!

How was this viewed by the Audi dealers? Did they bid you on the car when you were looking to sell, or were they non-receptive due to it's 'import' status?

Do you mind me asking how much they gave you for it? I'm potentially interested in the car, so it would be good to know what margin they have to play with if I bid them for it.
