New RS4 Owner - Same old issue?

Hi all

I'm a new RS4 owner as of two weeks ago so just getting aquatinted to the car. Purchase from Audi dealer so it fortunately comes with a years warranty.

Whilst I'm sure this is a long exhausted topic, I seem to have the tell tale signs of DRC issues - clonking from the front drivers side wheel but only on cold mornings :(

Just wanted a bit of advice really for when it goes back to the dealer for a check up. Whilst it's been through the Audi 145 check, it seems to have been missed. Is there anything I should be saying to them apart from the obvious signs to ensure that the DRC is fully checked? Strangely, this morning, there was no clonking though it was warmer.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is the clonking occurring when wheels are on full lock at slow speeds?

Hi. It's at slow speeds, (less than 30mph) as I go down our lane first thing in the morning, and also in a straight line. It normally only lasts for about 5 mins then all's OK (even going over speed humps). Strangely, it was Ok this morning but it was warmer than it has been.

Thanks

When I bought my RS4 in March from and Audi Dealer :audibash: (Leicester) they did that 145 point check and within a week the suspension (DRC) was exhibiting what you have described below. Mine had that knocking sound first thing in the morning then it went away after 10 minutes. Turned out front shocks were leaking.

I would definitely take it back to them and get them to check it out. They replaced all 4 shocks under warranty for me for free. How many miles has the car done? How old?

Cheers,
Gav

Hi. Thanks for the reply. It's an 07 plate with 35,000 miles on the clock. I've also had the brake disc warning light come on too but it went off again after a while and hasn't come back on. I guess they can look at that via the fault logs but with the whole DRC thing probably, as you say, requiring new shocks, I was keen to 'direct' their attention rather than go back and forth. It's a nuisance that it only happens when it's cold as I bet as soon as I book it in, it'll warm up!!

Cheers.

That's pretty low less than 75K or 5 years then you should get this F.O.C. especially as it's just 2 weeks old. Mine had 18,500 miles when it went bang...they will be able to detect this even if it's not apparent after a long journey. It does seem to be the Achilles’ heel of this model. Good luck with Audi. Also point them to this link below if they start kicking off.

Which dealer? Some are better than others at picking-up the DRC issues first time around.
You've probably also got 30 days to hand it back if you're not fully satisfied (just some ammo' for your back pocket)

The 145 point check means Jack, quite frankly.

Also, if the dealer doesn't find anything wrong with the shocks.... take it to another dealer and get them to check again.

Hi. Got it from Swindon Audi and I even mentioned the DRC before buying it. Near me though is Slough Audi and there's always Fontain in Iver but yes, given the 30 days option, I wanted Swindon to sort it .

Any feedback on these dealers? Cheers.

Hi,

Mine was fixed at Slough Audi - they were aware of this and did a good job. Good luck.

Cheers,
Gav

I live in Swindon and used Swindon Audi quite extensively to sort out problems inherited with my car from another dealer
They've been very helpful, and ultimately, in your case it's their responsibility to sell you a car that works, not one with a lost of problems that their weak 145 point 'check' didn't pick up
If you don't get any joy out of Swindon, thn I'd suggest you complain directly to Audi uk (I can give you the contact details if you like).
I did this, and my car was fixed very quickly and they couldn't be helpful enough

Swindon Audi do seem a decent bunch of guys, but they're not all experienced with RS Cars, so you'll need to try and get the right guy

Good luck

Hi. Thanks, got it booked in now for next Tuesday for them to have for a couple of days so we'll see what they say. Mentioned the DRC to them (along with vibration on hard braking) and they said they'd take a look so if I get a no go, I'll contact you for the details of Audi UK. Thanks for the advice.
