In the stealers

So I took the rs4 into Audi Stafford today as the emission's warning came on last week, it also cleared it's self for two day's and then back on yesterday

I explained all this to Audi Stafford when dropping it off

The had 3 errors logged on the ecu, all seem to be false when testing the components once the errors were cleared

Even the cat was tested.

So it was a bit late to collect the car so it's spending a night there, when i asked what do we do next as no fault was found, they said lets just see how you get on and see if the fault comes back?

And for this pleasure I'm expected to pay £130 inc vat

My question is should I pay when no fault has been found, so all I'm paying for is to clear the fault down? I do understand that they have spent an hour

But it's oviouse to me the fault will re occur in a couple of day's

What do you guys think?

That's the problem with main dealers, my mechanic at mmms technik does not Charge to find the fault, and will only change parts once 100% sure on what the problem is

I bought a VCDS cable because of this. Buy genuine though mate - I got stung because I tried to buy cheap.

They charge what they do because they know most then take it to an independent to get fixed and they had enough doing a free diagnosis with no follow up business. Like said above, you live and learn and buy your own VCDS from Ross-tech for futue use.

+2

My HEX-USB+CAN lead has paid for itself many times over in saved diagnosis costs, and that's within taking into consideration the savings when I change settings (like putting the headlights into Tourist mode).

Similar thing happened to me a while back, but the dealer said if the fault occurred again and they were able to trace it they'd refund the cost of the "failed" diagnostic. It did happen again, they traced it this time and refunded as promised.
