Bye bye B7

Well after nearly 3 years of ownership the rs4 has gone, gonna really miss that miltek growl (neighbours probably aren't!). It's been replaced with a TTRS (cue hairdresser quips). Have got this booked I with the top blokes at Revolution for a stage two remap, miltek, fmic and air filter which should give comfortably over 400bhp. Different to the B7 but should be fun

I swapped my B7 RS4 for an RS3 the other week, haven't looked back! The 2.5 is sublime, so much power without having the ring the neck out of it!

Enjoy!

I've been looking at the RS3 actually, they look awesome and I'm getting bored of wringing the neck of the RS4 and then changing into 4th gear at 100 mph. My wife just got an MX-5 and you can redline that and still be legal which brings a whole new experience to me. It does wallow about it but that's just 'old school' motoring - It doesn't feed back the confidence that the RS4 does but in a way I find it more challenging to drive quickly, probably as the engine is quite gutless. That's not a bad thing though as it means you need to carry speed into corners so you have some on the exit. The RS3's that are about are still a bit too pricey for me at the moment and the limited run of the RS4 still endears it to me unfortunately.

Bro, I hear ya, fact. I fly fast-jets everyday - I am an RAF fast-jet flying instructor and I teach students to fight them as a weapons system - so life is still there. It's just that there is a lot to be said for switching to a GTR or a 430 or a 911 Turbo. But I come up against the same problem that the power is just not usable on the road without pushing the law and physics. I've pushed that for 20 years now, the MX-5 just means I get the fun without being an idiot with speed. I'm thinking of getting a bike but I don't have the ability to just 'stop' which is why the RS is so good as it 'looks after me' when I'm being an idiot. I know that another car wouldn't do that - Focus RS, ST, GTR, V8 Vantage, Gallardo - all cars that would 'let go' before I felt they should - the RS4 I know but I am at a stage where I don't want to push it that hard anymore. Maybe I am tired of life bro, but I've lost a lot of mates over the last year in flying and out on ops and I guess that settling down period is near arrival.

Horses for courses.... but you could say Vettel and Hamilton 'ring the neck' out of their 18,000 rpm cars?
The RS4 does 30-70 in sub 4 seconds which is Evo FQ territory... I feel this N/A is just as responsive at legal speeds as my previous list of turbo cars.
Turbos are much easier to drive quickly but equally I felt much less involving....hence the jump.....back to those horses and courses again :)

My RS4 goes Friday back to Audi and I'll be driving the RS3 home. It felt so much quicker on the test drive but i've put this down to the fact turbo cars always 'feel' quicker...... Athough i did have to ring the RS4's neck on the way home and felt more of an effort.

I'd say up to 100mph it is easily as quick as the RS4, especially as they apparently never produced Audi claimed power figures (so I have been told on numerous occasions on here anyway). That, coupled with coked up engines makes the RS3 a superb contender! I'd love to see a "GTBoard" style run between them!

Ryan, it's the white one I was looking at at work. Not the best spec, especially compared to the grey one but one owner, low mileage and absolutely mint, like brand new. Can't believe I've only driven it once and come away on holiday - cant wait to get home, get it tuned and thrash the nuts off it!

Dave,

How did you find the ride and steering in the TTRS? I recall a few people saying it was very firm compared to the RS4 and it is was a little disconnected in terms of steering feel? No doubts the engine and performce will be as good / better than a normal RS4 when tuned and a 5 pot does sound great but will you miss the V8 soundtrack?

Took mine up to Aberdeen and back yesterday and along the Coldstream Road the RS mullered the road and everything in its wake that I had to overtake and was a pleasure on the motorways. The only potential downside is mpg but no sure the TT would be too much better, 22mpg overall.

Ryan, have been looking at rota's but will have to wait - tuning comes first!

P_G, haven't driven it much, picked it up sat then came away on Sunday. First impressions are good tho, it feels 'lighter' (not just the weight of the car, but the steering, the agility etc). The ride is no firmer than the B7, it definitely feels as quick, can't wait to see what it's like once tuned! It'd be no good for you tho mate, the back seats are a total waste of space, even for small kids!
