Took the Milltek off yesterday...so now running an OEM system with sports cat, to be fair, it still sounds amazing and dare I say it... better!

My car is now being used as a daily runner so just fancied going back to a OEM system (this is the second time iv done this) :bash:

So my Miltek system will be for sale soon (Valved and Res) to release funds for the Clio track project, keep an eye on the classifieds.

Also removed the front and rear Hotchkis ARBS.....these are now up for sale here http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=99156 Anyone who wants a firmer ride will love these.

Interesting... maybe the sport cat's been the upgrade I've been looking for! A change in character but not noise levels...

Yep I ran this set up a few years ago, was OK, just a little tad more than OEM sound levels. But remap will be needed.

sport cats on OEM downpipes...I don't understand.

Or do you guys refer to the downpipes as 'cats.' And sport cats are aftermarket downpipes? The cat to me is a catalytic converter, of which our stock exhaust downpipes have two...a pre cat and a main cat.

A great exhaust mod is to gut out the precat and leave the main cat intact. Our main cats are actually of excellent quality and flow really well. The precats suck.

Sports cats = Milltek 100 or 200 cell cats. They are also known as free flow down pipes as there are no pre cats ( piggies to Americans).

Technically you could gut your oem, but these still would not be sports cats and would not be free flow downpipes as there is not a smooth bore pipe there (just a hollow larger pipe/area where the pre cat was).

Agree that the OEM cat is good, however care is to be taken when gutting the pre cats as parts of the cat can get lodged into the main cat and cause heat spots causing serious damage.

Ive done the same Sonny, had the full milltek with sports cats but it was too much, ended up keeping the sports cats and putting the original exhaust back on. Its a nicer sound to my ears too yet still perfectly capable of turning heads

I have now had

Full OEM

Milltek Valved-Non res with OEM cats

OEM system with Milltek sports cats

Milltek Valved - Non Res with Milltek sports Cats

Milltek Valved - Res with Milltek Sports cats

OEM system with Milltek Sports cats

and soon to have

OEM system with OEM cats with gutted pre-cats.

So 6 variations...all sound so different.

Question is, which sounds best to your seasoned ears? Was out in mine today and for the first time I wondered about putting the OEM back boxes back on and leaving x-pipe and GruppeM in place and posssibly gutting precats because it was a little too loud. Had to put it in normal mode. It sounds mega WOT or on lift off run down but sometimes even the popping gets too much between gear changes. OEM back boxes having more in them would quieten this down.

That is the million dollar question. I truly think its down to what mood you are in.

The GruppeM with the full Milltek is amazing when your driving with the lads to the Ring or on a track day. The Cats with OEM system is great for a daily runner (just louder than stock).

I have not even tried the X/H pipe set up...yours PG sounds totally different to the set ups I have had.
