Steering wheel vibration
Noticed last week my steering wheel was vibrating around 55 mph.
Thought I may have lost a wheel weight, needed new tires so ordered them up and had them fitted on Saturday (GY F1 AS2's) thinking that as wheels would be balanced with the new tires this would fix the steering vibration.
However after having the new tires fitted the vibration is still there at around 55 mph.
Is there anything else that can cause the steering wheel to vibrate / wobble ?

Uneven disc wear could contribute to this.

Had new discs fitted 3 months ago - so don't think it's that.

All I can suggest is that you get the wheels rebalanced!
I take it you have checked the tyres for any abnormalities/stones etc?

Re: Steering wheel vibration
Yep, rebalance wheels. If you have hit a pothole hard it may have flat spotted the wheel and needs reshaped. Some balancing machines cannot always compensate for this.
Re: Steering wheel vibration
swap the front wheels to the back and see if the wobble is reduced.

Re: Steering wheel vibration
Thanks.
Will take the car back and get it rebalanced.
Not hit any potholes that I can recall.
Looking at one of the front wheels it does have a load of weights on it - taking up about 1/4 of the wheel.

Re: Steering wheel vibration
Reads like they perhaps struggled to balance it and it needs reshaping. They are big and fairly heavy wheels so easy to get out of shape over time. I have had all four of mine done the last time I had them refurbed and there is a big improvement on ride and handling.
Re: Steering wheel vibration
P_G, did SEM reshape them for you, or did you go somewhere else?P_G wrote:Reads like they perhaps struggled to balance it and it needs reshaping. Re: Steering wheel vibration
Don't use SEM anymore just because of the time they take to do wheels alhtough the job they do is aalways very good. Using the Wheel Specialist in Westerhope, contact Tony Gray.stu wrote:P_G, did SEM reshape them for you, or did you go somewhere else?P_G wrote:Reads like they perhaps struggled to balance it and it needs reshaping. I had GY F1 Assymetric 2 (255/35/19) put on.
What are balancing spots ? They do have white dots on the side of the tyres

Re: Steering wheel vibration
So I have just had the wheel balance checked with the view to swap rear to front and I can confirm that my front right alloy has a slight buckle... That's now on the rear and feels a little better...
Just shows to double check, can't understand why this wasn't spotted at the first garage....grr.... Wondering if I now need to purchase a new alloy?

Re: Steering wheel vibration
Should be able to get it reshaped by a reputable wheel refurbisher.
