Re: chnaging default volume... help
I'll look into that, I'm also not sure my volume is increasing as the ambient noise increases, trying to figure out how to activate that too.

Re: chnaging default volume... help
Yeah this is problem for me too as I use my processor to control the volume and have to set the RNS-E volume to just below clipping point but every time I turn the ignition off then on it decides to lower the lower and I have to find the max volume point again.
Re: chnaging default volume... help
no one got any advice on this?

Re: changing default volume on RNSE... help
This question got asked a lot a few years ago, but no definite answer was ever found.
For some people, me included, setting the volume on the RNS-E "Radio TestMenu 3" Engineering Mode screen worked - but that didn't seem to work for everyone.

I've checked as much as I can but can't find no settings

Dave
Is your suggestion to make the volume change with ambient speed or is it to change the turn on volume?

It's about the subject of this thread - changing the default volume.MikeFish wrote:Dave

Changing the volume vs. speed setting does nothing as the Bose AudioPilot system resets that anyway.

Re: changing default volume on RNSE... help
I only asked because the second post also asked about the ambient noise issue and it was not clear from then on whether everyone was still talking about the original issue or not. Also your picture had the gala setting highlighted and I thought this was the name for the ambient noise setting.

That's a "stock" picture not one I took specifically for this thread.MikeFish wrote:Also your picture had the gala setting highlighted and I thought this was the name for the ambient noise setting.
"GALA" is a bit of a misnomer, because we have AudioPilot which isn't speed dependent volume changing - it's background noise dependent volume changing. There's a microphone in the interior light that measures interior noise, the Bose amp subtracts the "music" signal from that to get an estimate of the interior noise which it use to adjust not only the volume but also the frequency response of the Bose amp.
GALA based speed dependent volume changing did nothing when driving on rough roads, but AudioPilot increases the volume to compensate.

Re: changing default volume on RNSE... help
Ok thanks for clearing that up. So (off topic I know) if I am not using the Bose amp there is no sound level change going on (which is exactly what I want)?
Now just need to stop the volume going down every time I restart the car.

Re: changing default volume on RNSE... help
There's no change going on in the amp (As you're not using it) but if your RNS-E is coded for an A4 or Bose sound characteristic (i.e 301xxx or 309xxx) there will still be some (probably unwanted) equalisation happening, so it might be best to recode your RNS-E to a linear sound characteristic (i.e. 300xxx).MikeFish wrote:Ok thanks for clearing that up. I noticed the volume changing quite a bit on an 8 hr drive yesterday, the non res milltek was playing havoc with the system.

Re: changing default volume on RNSE... help
Back from the dead.... I find it very annoying that the default volume is so high. Can anyone advise what setting needs to be changed in Engineering Mode? In the Radio TestMenu 3 I don’t see what would do the trick.
