Just considering next car after almost three years in the B7. I do like the look of the M3 with competiton pack. Just wondering if anyone on here has experience and opinions of these please?

Thanks

Nick

It is a stonking car Just avoid the special paint you could get with the competition pack. Also make dame sure it has a full BMW only history and all the updates recalls service bulletin updates are done otherwise it WILL be a complete dog.

I cannot answer as I only have the e46 ghay hairdressers model Fshbmw but I do hear from the Beemer boys the e46 is the better one!

Amongst various other cars, I did look seriously at the e90 shape M3 instead of an RS4
They're chalk and cheese in terms of driving style. The BMW makes you want to drive it like a hooligan to get the most out of it, whereas the RS4 is more gentlemanly if that's the right word
In the dry, the performance is comparible. However, stick a bit of damp in and the BMW driver won't see which way the RS4 went.
Very different sounding V8's too, but I prefer the sound of the RS
In practicality terms, the Audi wins hands down
Also, IMHO, less people will think you're a c0ck when driving an RS4 and it's less likely to attract rozzers / car crime too
Paddle shift in the BMW is really good, but you've got to make sure it's had all the updates or, as mentioned above, it'll run like a pile of pants
Get one with FBMWSH as the AUC warranty scheme (which is available on any uk car with FBMWSH) and significantly cheaper than audis equivalent (was circa £800/yr for <60k miles car IIRC)
Get the pay monthly warranty as that doesn't reset when car goes over 60k like the annual l/sum payment option does
Good cars though and fun to drive, but avoid red leather as although it may seem a good idea at the time, you'll soon realise its cr@p ! :)

After driving both on track a reasonable amount I would agree.
The best m3 is the e46 with a manual box - just great.

Agree with the wet road comments. The rs4 is by far the faster road car but the m3 in any form is better on most tracks.
Sure in theory I the right road in the right conditions the m3 may be fractionally faster but you'll be working that much harder and running much closer to the limit.
Be fun to take an rs4 rally crossing though!

I had an E92 M3 Coupe for a year, cracking car, but the RS4 is a better day to day car. The BMW V8 doesn't shift you as quick, there is no real @wallop@ lilt the RS has @ 5.5k rpm.

I had the manual as I had a CSL with SMG before, I hear the DCT is better but I fancied a change.

Would I go back? No!
