Came up behind one of these this morning at a round-a-bout on a quiet stretch of road.
It was raining and he gunned it. I thought he may have struggled accelerating out of the round -a-bout being rear wheel drive...
Not so...
I could not catch him and to be honest I would say he was ever so slightly pulling away!
Hate that rare feeling.....feeling inadequate!

Aye, but their odd moments of glory will be tempered by the fact they drive a 1 series !!
God, they are ugly.

The 1M on the other hand is an awesome piece of kit but would not temp me away from the RS4

It shouldn't have pulled away
I've a colleague with one, and I can leave him on the dual carriageway.
Out of tight corners it's a more even battle...... until it rains... or snows
Maybe it was modified ?

Something doesn't add up. I can wipe the floor when playing around with my brother in law in his 335i. The balance is tipped with 3x90kg+ passengers in with me though!
The 135i is about 70kg lighter than the 335i - not much, so probably not enough to out perform a stock B7 RS4. Torque is very similar (400ish for the 135/335 verus 430Nm for the RS4).

Just had a quick Google... for about £450, Superchips will change a 135i from 315 HP to 360 HP and from 394 Nm to 456 Nm.
So...
Superchipped 135i= 1560kg; 360hp = 240hp/ton with torque advantage
Stock saloon RS4= 1650kg; 414hp = 250hp/ton
(source for numbers: wikipedia)
Throw in a little carbon and whatever else takes the edge off our engines and you've got a match

Comparing bhp / ton with n/a and turbo engines is a bit difficult.
If you started below 5k rpm then the forced induction has such a huge advantage even if down on ultimate power.

Really depends where in the rev range you were sitting when you put your foot down.
I've had encounters with some really mediocre average cars and didn't bother changing down - much to my own detriment.
Like Ads says, the real fun starts from about the 5k mark.
On an unrelated note, theres major roadworks outside my work at the moment so to avoid the gridlock in the mornings (read blatantly flout traffic laws) I've taken the R1 out of hibernation early.
Fck me this thing can shift!

There are probably 5 other tunes that are far better for the 135i than superchips. There are plenty of 350-375 whp (400+ bhp) 135/335 cars out there with simple tune/intake mods. Some of the more effective tunes make even more power. A tuned one should do well against an RS4.

Thanks for the responses.
The conclusion to me is that it must have been tuned, as it was suprising how I couldn't even gain any ground on it at all!
I know my car is pretty quick as I've had run ins with other fast motors and not had any problems.
