RNS-E not reading disks

Hi you lot,
My brother's RNS-e has decided not to play CD's any more. Are there any common fixes, or is it a new head unit?
I don't think he has a multichanger, it's the slot that has died.

+1

Using copied map DVDs makes the laser work harder, and it's a not uncommon problem for that to cause it to overheat and fail.

Audi don't supply parts for the RNS-E but over on www.audiforum.us members like Haaggie and rabbit can supply replacements (and fitting instructions).

For a DIY replacement of the laser, look here:

Although, I think you need to be fairly technically minded to do it!

Thanks guys. I think he's on the original OEM disk, will ask him to check. Either way, nice to know it's fixable without having to buy a stolen RNS-E from ebay - no way any of us are funding thieving scum.

Not all the RNS-E's on eBay are stolen - Audi have a refurbishment site for their electronics in Lithuania.
