Poorly RS4

Pulled into a car park tonight and the RS started feeling really rough and hesitant, pulled into a space ands just as I did so the engine management light started to flash. I quickly switched the car off and checked the manual to be told that the flashing light may be low oil pressure. I checked the oil which was fine. Just driven the car home a short distance thankfully and it feels awful to drive, the light is now on full time. Had the car since July with no probs so far. Got a feeling this may be related to the common coil pack issue which has plagued the Audi range for years! Anyone got any thoughts or advice on this. Thanks in advance.

Im feeling a coil pack failure too. If the EML is flashing then its a coil pack for sure.

Coil pack or vac leak.

Wasn't there a manufacturer bulletin released for issues around coil-packs (forgotten the proper term for it) ... FAQ to the rescue - Workshop Campaign!
Have a quick review of the RS4 FAQ pinned at the top of this section...

Yes there was a service campaing for coil packs - just ring your local Audi dealer and give them the reg - they will be able to tell you if you are eligable for the replacement coil pack FOC.
I had both my O3 S4 and 56 RS4 done FOC.

Called the dealer an they informed me there is no outstanding campaigns on my car. Was this issue associated with all RS4s or only certain engines? Booked in for a diagnostic at the cost of £75!!!! Dear Santa......can you bring me a new coil pack!!!

Whilst you are asking Santa request
VCDS and save yourself £75 for every Audi diagnostic.
The coil pack campaign was only against certain model RS4s

You can check the coils yourself - there are a list of numbers of the duff units.
Just need to undo the wiring harness and carefully unclog one as the part no is obscured.
There's a list of duff units on here somewhere.
Vagcom would be useful but even a 20 quid Halfords obd code reader would give some insight into what is going on.
Coil packs probably show as a misfire code and vac leak sometimes comes up as a secondary air code.

Definitely not all RS4s - mine was registed in June 07 and is not covered by the recall (pity, as I quite liked the idea of getting all 8 coil packs replaced FOC after 4.5 years.....).

Just to check i would try another dealer and specifically ask if your car is eligable for the coil pack campaing.

How will they know? Will it be that certain 'faulty' packs were fitted when the car was new from and to a certain date?? i.e all cars built from March06 to Dec06 for example havce the potential faulty packs and so fall under the campaign?? I just got my 4 last month and when I called Audi CS they informed me that the coil packs were replaced as part of the workshop campain the previous month??? I would call customer services, give them your reg and they should tell you straight away.... Lig.

Manufacturers are really good at keeping records of every part number fitted to the car.
However if they have been changed in the past then it may not show up.
The only concrete method is to physically inspect the part number of a coil pack.

The TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) specifies the part numbers of coil packs that have to be changed, any other part numbers are OK.
