e60 M5 to RS4 cab

Post by tranter5 » Wed Dec 14, 2011 9:07 pm

Evening all, I currently have a e60 M5 as my personal car and I change every few months and fancy an RS4 cabriolet. I wondered if anyone had made the move from m5 to rs4? will I feel a big drop in performance? The M5 is an awesome all round car I just fancy a convertible with some v8 noise! Currently got an rs6 avant and the noise and drive is amazing. I also can't believe how good the interior build quality in the 2004 rs6 is compared with my 3 year old m5. I always thought bmw and audi were on par with quality. The idea is to pick an rs4 cab up early next year and sell mid summer. Any first hand advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Welcome.

FON.

Rule 1.

They are completely different cars, the chassis on the E60 is truly something special, you may find the B7 cab very wobbly and it'll be a lot slower to 100MPH (something like 3ish seconds behind), a great summer posing car though.
I'm sure someone will be along soon to add more.

I made exactly that move, well E60 M5 to RS4 saloon and I've never looked back.

M5 was fast but I found anything other than bone dry it struggled. RS4 a much more useable car all round.

M5 is sub 10 to 100, RS4 is only 1 second behind.

Running costs on RS are a lot less, especially petrol.

Gearbox on M5 is shocking!!!

I read that the B7 RS cab is something like a 12.5sec for 0-100. The B7 RS sal is about 10sec dead with the E60 a shade quicker than that...

welcome

FON

RS 4 cab is a great car for what it is ... not many 400PS 4 seater convertibles out there with a stonking V8

but it is a fat wobbly bastard

Disappointed to hear that, because coming from a D2 S8 the C5 interior is a bit of a let down to be honest. I really thought the E60 interior would be nicer considering the E39 interior is much better then the C5 IMO, and I find it hard to believe the C5 drive (handling) is on par with the E60. Do you have any photos of the two?

M5 is 0-100 in 9.6, RS4 is sub 11 but don't know the exact timing!!

M5 is a monster past 100 though, it just keeps going and going. Feels like its never going to stop.

RS6 is 10.7 secs to 100 mph, thought the B7 would have been more.

As I said, the RS4 cab is 'about' 3secs slower to 100mph against the E60 M5.

I wouldn't take this as fact but:
E60 M5 sal = 9.2secs
http://www.fastestlaps.com/cars/bmw_m5_e60.html
B7 RS4 sal = 10secs
http://www.fastestlaps.com/cars/audi_rs4_b7.html
B7 RS4 cab = 12.2secs
