Roads made for RS4's

This just came to mind as I was using a road today for the first time in a few years that I forgot how good it was, that being the A696 / A68 from Ponteland through Carter Bar, Jedburgh and up to Edinburgh. Particularly the bit up to Jedburgh from Newcastle with a mixture of open moor sections, narrow forest enclosed parts, fast long sweeping bends, undulating sections with adverse camber and then sprinkled with some sharp corners.

The kids loved it, other half wasn't pleased and often referred to the fact that she should have had pace notes but the RS4 took it all in it's stride and made a mockerey of a number of the max speed suggestions on bends by doubling and then some with ease in my 'non-RS4' Recaro comfort seats. And some long enough straights to get past what slower traffic is on there. Anyone who hasn't tried it should, the bikers love it and it is some 70 miles of uninterupted driving nirvana, almost as good as the Sleights - Pickering via Fylindales road across the N.York moors.

But then what other roads do people recommend that are close to their home?

My first trip out in the RS4 was up to Edinburgh using that route,I had to stop half way as the Mrs was feeling sick due to some high speed corners and bumps in the roads :nodder: .Its a great drive, it would have been even better before all the speed cameras.

You say that though but half if not all of them don't work. Reason I suspect that is I was taking it easy going back yesterday and a Passat diesel laden with bikes on the back was in a rush so overtook me and about 9 other vehicles including an HGV on a stretch and went straight through a GATSO site in excess of 70 and the thing didn't go off. Also a bit of a knob as he was overtaking round a blind bend as well.

There is always someone who wants to be faster so let them.

Can't beat the Cat & Fiddle run to Macclesfield http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hqDwi0lk-Y :beerchug:

Supposed to one of the most dangerous roads in Uk - so you need to show it some respect. But it does reward :biggrin3:

A413/A418 to Milton Keynes from Denham are fantastic when clear. ANY car can hit its top speed on some sections but I never go over 70mph.

A509 from Kettering, through Wellingborough and down towards Newport Pagnell are some belters too.

We used to spend hours going from J14, M1 up to the A14 and back again on our bikes. Mental.

Thanks for the heads up Jules. Haven't driven there in couple of years or more so wasn't aware of that, but used to enjoy it when tooled up :kissmyrings:

I'm soon to be returning to the 4 rings so bit disappointed - was looking forward to giving the Cat and Fiddle a bit of a play.
