Hi all - my B7 RS4 has been running perfect up to now with a couple of things which I was wondering if anybody else has experienced?
First I have got about 30k on the clock and recently had new discs on the front and new pads all round plus a change of dot 5.1 brake fluid, and custom made braided hoses...
I have H&R lowering springs to drop her 20mm... And I also recently had 4 verdrstien tyres also fitted

So the couple of problems I'm getting are as follows:

From a cold start first gear is very rough and often causes the car to kangaroo down the road, change into second isn't very smooth but once engaged seems to be ok... One the engine is warm it does get a lot better but the problem is still there.
The second problem is steering wheel vibration I have noticed that there is a slight vibration when driving normally, but as I brake gently the vibration is really bad! (through the steering wheel) Also cornering isn't as good either (vibration) Hard braking I don't notice it... Now as I've had new tyres could this be a simple wheel balancing problem or could it be related to the brakes or suspension?

Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Steve,
Have you has the SW0090 software update which was designed to cure the rough running problem? Be careful if you have a remap though as the new software will clear the map.
Brakes could be a balancing issue particularly as it vibrates when the brakes aren't in use. I'd go back to whoever fitted the brakes and get them to look at it.

I would also get rid of that break fluid as that is the wrong type for these cars. Dot4 to be used

Get the tryres balanced again, i had the exact same thing, i ended up using another company to balance them for me. They were so far out before.

Once correctly balanced they were fine

Sonny - a mate of mine who does a lot of racing in Audi's recommended the 5.1 fluid and I have no problems in stopping or fade etc... In fact I have noticed a difference from racing at the Nurburgring that they are always sharp, although the boiling point is a lot higher with 5.1

On the break fluid reservoir is states that dot 4 to be used only. I use RBF600 racing fluid and this is fine.

Dot 5.1 just has a higher boiling point than Dot 4 so either should be fine. Dot 5 is a lot more dodgy as is silicone based so needs to ensure compatible with hoses/seals etc. + is not hydroscopic so needs regular changes as if any water gets in the system is very bad (which is why regular fluid is designed to absorb water). This is based on racing motorbikes some years back so may have changed a bit now, have to be careful listening to racers though as all they care about is winning, not how often have to change/strip things between races...

Motul rbf600 dot 4 is the best. Way exceeds even dot5.1 standards.
Sure there are a couple that are better dry, motul is more stable over a larger hygroscopic range.

Arh ok, will try that dot 4 stuff instead! Also Shane what do u mean by brakes need rebalancing?

Ok so the latest with this brake judder problem:

Tyres were out of balance so that has been sorted, I was hopeful that it resolved the problem but unfortunately not... One thing that was picked up is that I have 3 brake discs where the drills all point to the back and drivers side front is the opposite way so lean forward, according to Audi that's how they are supposed to be because the front discs are the same part number and not sided where the back discs are different part numbers and are sided, very strange!

Discs seem absolutely fine with no warping, but one thing it could be is the bushes are worn out around the wishbone / suspension arms, so this is going to have a full check on the ramp Tuesday morning
At the moment it really isn't a nice car to drive, really bad shaking steering wheel when gentle braking and cornering just feels like the car is skipping!

I wondering if anybody knows if the DRC could be at fault for this? I've checked the struts and no obvious leaking fluid like before but does that mean they are OK or is there another way of checking?

Another problem may be that your alloy/s is/are buckled. They will still balance but you will find through the wheel and your seat that it feels bouncy. I have that at present accentuated by my spacers; looking at getting a particular alloy straightened. You won't see it normally but on a rolling road I noticed it on mine and you can see the wheel spinning at normal speed, that is when it is noticable.

Yeah I do have a buckled front wheel however I've been told that it is only very slight and not enough to really shake the car about like it is doing...

Did you get the kangaroo issue sorted?

Mine has just started to do the same - worse when cold but still there when warm so curious as to what the solutuion was/is?
