Front Bumper lacquer peel!!!!!

Hi,

The paint lacquer on the front bumper has started to peel, see my 'poor' photos, has anyone else had this or is this covered under any Audi warranty, the car is 5 years old?

Let me have some feedback.

Good luck with a claim through Audi. I've had some paintwork issues (not peeling lacquer however) and they have been helpful but will not even consider a funded repair. They took a paint depth gauge reading to confirm that it is original paint (it is) but are now hiding behind the '3 year' paintwork defect warranty they offer as mine is over 4 years old.

I could get a independent inspection but to be honest i can't be bothered with the hassle (and cost) a the repair would cost nearly the same as the inspection!

The can't get a PDG reading from the bumper as its plastic so you would struggle to confirm that your paint is original. Even if it is you will probably be fighting a loosing battle. Although it is a defeatist attitude I would suggest you save a lot of hassle and wasted time and bite the bullet and just get the repair carried out yourself.

It's a tough one because on the bumper most will be put down to some sort of impact even if it is not visual Mine started peeling when I was using a pressure washer on it! I have had mine repsrayed but under paintwork warranty (because it was a replacement after a front end collission) which as said is 3 years IIRC. The lacquer is creeping on my passenger door under the bump strip in two places and around the dooor handle housing; I'm biting the bullet and having the car rejuvenated by a specialist paintshop later this year because |I know Audi won't cover that.

just had an email from audi, they are quite prepared to undertake the repairs to the failed lacquer, should i trust the potential quality respray or not???

If they are doing under warranty then why not, you get a 12 month defects warranty on any work they do.

Win - win!

As PG says, you get a 12 month warranty with the repair.

Plus you get it FOC.
And if you're not satisfied when it comes to collect, refuse to accept it and ask them to re-do it.

So how did you go about getting the inspection or did you just e-mail some pictures to Audi UK?

Audi Tetbury are having the car back to do the peeling paint, reimburse me the cost for a new tyre after a tyre plug they did that failed, check and replace front shocks if needs be, get the exhaust flaps working again and try to get the seat bolsters to stay inflated - the car will be in for a week at the beginning of July, hopefully everything will get sorted.

A result, i will let you know when it comes back!!
