Phaeton Discs on the RS4

So I'm going to need new front discs soon and I know the Pheaton discs are the exact same size as the RS4's but a lot, lot cheaper, question is are they worth it?

I'm thinking it'd be possible to drill the Pheaton discs too using the old RS4 one as a template and countersink the holes slightly. I know you have to remove the actual disc from the hub part and use the existing Audi hub.

RS4 discs are around £550 on eBay for genuine Audi ones.

Phaeton discs are around £250?

I'm not on a budget as such but I'm not paying £300 extra because it has an Audi stamp on it!

Thanks

Daz

I definitely wouldn't drill the discs! It's done in a factory with exact prescision. I would imagine the phaeton discs would not perform as well under pressure due to lack of cooling from not having holes. I wasn't aware that they were the same size but I guess if they fit and you're not too particular about braking performance then give it a try. I don't think I would.

They will be perfectly good enough for road use

The phaeton is a big heavy beast and in W12 450ps I would imagine requires some pretty decent brakes!

Maybe on a track the cooling from the holes will help

yes they fit but you have to swap the bells over as the phaeton has lore of an offset. i kew someone with them on an rs6 and he didnt have any problems,. dont get them drilled you will weaken them, you could however get them grooved

I have searched about doing this and it had been done a lot , all you need to do is get the pheaton discs and swap them onto the rs4 bells , you can even use the brand new bolts and washers from the phaeton discs and that's it. A guy off here told me about it and said that some are using them on track and they are fine

I think the holes in the RS4 disc are more about looks than function. Agree 100% with the groove though.

three things i may have learned the hardway:
1. dont purchase cheap tyres
2. dont EVER skimp on brakes
3. dont pee into the wind

I dont know Pheaton, would love to have some first hand opinions on them ;)
