MRC Vs STOCK???

Guys......humming and harring about spending a bit of cash on the car...Milltek non res...Port, clean remap etc etc.

My car in real terms is quick enough and as i pile on the miles seems to be getting quicker!!!

However got a bit of cash burning a hole and have defo decided to keep the car another 18 months 2 years...

So in everyday terms will the car be THAT MUCH quicker?

Theres a lot of talk about driveability and power deleivery being better etc etc..
BUT is there a real world noticeable difference in speed...side by side would a resonably healthy 380-39o bhp standard car be that far behind a remapped say 440-450 bhp car??

My car seems as quick now(if not a little quicker) as to when i bought it 3 years ago and with 25k more miles on it...

Apart from the noise of the milltek of course... is the extra power that much noticable?

Cheers

Chrissy.

Looking forward to the responses for this one, i'm in a similar position - wondering if its worth going down the modding route, is it really worth it in real world driving terms :beerchug:

Difficult to say for sure as I had several things done at the same time. In terms of real world driving I think the remap is the most noticeable as it removes the torque limiter on the first 3 gears. This only applies upto 5500rpm I think so you won't notice any change higher up but inevitably you spend a fair bit of time at the lower revs and you really do notice the difference then. It also seems to give you a more instant throttle repsonse (not sure if this is an actual fact though!) which is nice when you're having a blast.

I had my remap (MRC custom) done only in 'S' mode to make it easy to drive in town when not in 'S' mode although in reality I leave it in 'S' all the time as its still easy enough to drive in town.

If your power is up at 390PS then the cleaning may not make much difference. My power was down at 358PS so I had that done as well (along with an air filter and porting).

3 options.

1) Milltek (Cat back system), air filter (BMC/ITG) and a custom remap.

2) The above but with the Valves clean, ported and de-vaned manifold.

3) All the above with High flow cats.

Depending on budgets the choice is yours.

Anyone know "rough" costs for these three options??

3) 445.6ps, 479nm Brooner MRC filter manifold ported valves cleaned custom remap oem exhaust H&R anti roll bars MRC magic

4) 417.4ps, N11LS_J, K&N filter, Custom RS Fabrications system with 3" De-Cat pipes, Paramount Custom map, Hotchkis ARBs and H&R springs.

5) 395.9ps, 461nm, rs4mikek, freelow filter, Full Milltek with 100 cell cats, custom remap, all work done by MRC (manifolds and valve Cleaning not done yet)

6) 442ps, 471Nm, RSsJs, MRC filter, Full Milltek (non res 100cell cats), manifold, remap and valves cleaned, MRC and Sachs performance clutch.

7) 464.7, 513Nm, thdoluk, ITG, Milltek catless DP's and res exhaust, clean valves, ported manifold, cold air feed and MRC remap.

10) 461ps, 491Nm, Doug_S2, MRC Filter, Full Milltek, no cats, Ported/cleaned, cold air ram intake, MRC Remap

Just got back from MRC where they have worked some more magic on my car, now up to 464.7, 513Nm from 442.2, 479Nm.
The increase in low down torque is very noticeable. Doug said it's the most powerful one he's done so far. To say I'm happy is an understatement.
Big thanks to all the boys at MRC especially Doug.

Sonny has covered it nicely me thinks, and with a few more ps than me.....bugger haha well done sonny great result. I met 22b today as he bought my 100 cell cats, i gave him a quick go in mine, it was brief in busy conditions but the look on his face when the oppertunity arose to floor it and followed by " its instant" ....... Yup it sure is,any gear any speed it does as its told and gives me what i ask for via the throttle, hopefully he will check in soon and offer a comparison even if only a very brief drive

What do you make of it sonny? You have to think about giving it full beans out of some lower speed corners compared to stock when you floored it n though come on come on lets go..... To the OP (sorry doing this via phone n a night mare) your base figure of 380-390 would be the very high end of power output sread of standard cars, i think expecting 370-380 would be a more likely starting point, possibly gaining a genuine 90bhp from what you drive now is a substantial difference,i like sonny have done it in two stages,to go from complete stock to the full mrc package would be very very noticeable and impressive

I also got quotes for the work to be done by MRC. Plan on doing it in stages.

Just fitted a K&N filter, €50 and 20min work... easy mod. Have a cat-back non res Milly in the post.

The next step will be the pre-cats gutted, valves clean, ported and de-vaned manifold & remap etc!

Well I am booked in today at MRC :jump:

I will only be getting an air filter and Miltek mapped in so it will be interesting to see how mine goes with no cleaning or porting!

I will post up before and after. I am going for the staged approach as I imagine a few others may consider.

Ill post back in 4 hours!

tic toc.... very interested to see how this goes. I assume its a cat-back non res and no messing with the pre-cats?

I had all of my MRC (clean, port, 100cels, remap etc) work incl Sachs clutch/flywheel done in one go and the difference is simply gob smacking. I have had turbo cars remapped etc in the past and depite those having a theoretically higher power gain, much to my astonishment the B7 RS4 was the only one which felt night and day different. NA tuning is a layering of small but expensive gains but for me at least worth every penny.
