NATIONAL RS4 GATHERING?

Post by 22B » Wed May 25, 2011 8:19 pm

Seeing a newbie (moto15) posting up tonight about meets got me thinking  ; Why don't we have a National gathering like many other car clubs do? Not only would it be absolutely fantastic to see and hear all our amazing cars together, but it would also be great to put faces to some of the names on here.

I recently managed to put together probably the first Scottish RS4 run/meet recently and think that if we applied the same approach to a national gathering it would at least be something of a start. Basically, as usual with these sort of things, many folk were talking about it (where can we meet/ when can we meet/ who will organise etc etc) but no-one really took it on,- so I did! No big deal, it just needed someone to do it. The biggest stumbling block was deciding on a date that would suit everyone, so my approach was simply to put up a date and venue and stick to it, if you can make it fine, if not, unfortunate, but tough!

However, a bigger dilemma for a National gathering may possibly be choosing a suitably central location, and the fairest way to do that I think, would be to (obviously)have it in the middle of the country. Initial suggestion would be around York/Harrogate area. This would be 200 miles from Aberdeen and 200 miles from London. I know that some folk will be further north than that and many more will be further west/south than that but to me that seems fair and would surely cover the vast majority of members? When? Let's say the 3rd or 4th Sunday in July as a starter though that may be a wee bit soon. I’m open to suggestions on a venue......

What do you all think? If there is much interest /response to this thread I will start a separate thread and a proper list and get the ball rolling. Please don’t just read this and think about it, POST A REPLY so I/we can see if there is any real desire for this to happen.

Im always game for a meet mate, and thanks for taking the effort to organise.

Dates, yep June/July sounds good (Lets make the most of the Summer).

Location, I think you have hit the nail on the head, However I personally dont mind traveling a little far afield (its all an adventure).

Deffo up for a meet. I would say avoid the school holidays as lots of people will be away on holiday then. As the majority of members seem to be south (but not me) I would say somewhere between Brum and Sheffield for the venue (Donington Park)?

Yes David, I agree with that, it should certainly help to boost numbers and therefore make it more likely to happen.

Anywhere Midlands based sounds good... and fairest. I think York is a little far north for a fair split of peoples journeys.

Just been looking at a map. "If" we are to meet in the York area, then what about one of the National parks, such as the North Yorks Moors National park? Should be some good riving roads.

If we look to the North West, we have the Lake district, good driving roads and surly lots of car parks?

Any more North and we might as well meet at Glenns or P_Gs place for a brew ;)

Whats the score with booking a meet at Gaydon, not been there for years.

Sounds good to me. If we leave from Aberdeen we could do a convoy to the meet :-)
