A few months ago there was a post regarding a number of people buying space saver 18"x3.5J wheels (Part no: 1K0 601 027B 03C) for their RS4's. There was some discussion regarding options on the tyre size for the wheel. Someone was looking into installing a T145/70xR18 tyre on the rim. Did anybody manage to purchase a T145/70xR18 tyre and was there any fitting problems on the 3.5" rim?

I've looked at other options such as T125/70xR18 and T135/80xR18, but the T145/70xR18 has the least amount of error on the rolling radius. However, I'm just concerned about it fitting correctly on the 3.5" rim.

I have a full size spare decided it was better than trying to make do

+1 on the full size spare, probably cost less that getting the spacesaver together.

then you can at least travel on at full speed

+2 if i ever do long distances in the car just take a full size with in the boot...

eBay is your best bet.

Although IMO the best solution for long journeys is gunk and a used tyre.

I tried to get a 145 70 18 space saver but tyre centre said not available
they ordered me what was supposedly a compatible alternative with help from Continental Tech Support an it was huge! Would barely fit in the boot so I rejected that.
Still waiting for a better size which is 3 week order.
FYI I placed my original order in Jan or early Feb!

According to the rim width calculator here http://www.alloywheels.com/tyrecalc.asp you need a rim of between 4" and 5.5" for a 145/70 R18 tyre.

I have just brought a RS4 and am not at all happy about not having a spare wheel so I have been doing some research on the forum and else were.

A thread on the forum seemed to settle on having an 18 inch space saver part number 1k0601027B with a 125/70/R18 tyre on it, but this will only fit on the back due to the size of the front brake calliper, so if you have a front puncture you will need to swap the wheels around. This is a 3.5” wide rim.

But only has a rolling radius of 198.51mm against the original full size tyre 255/35/19 with a radius of 207.69mm,

I have now found a 19” space saver from the A5/S5 2011 model part number 8K0601027D £75 +vat fitted with a 125/70/19 tyre £168 + vat from Audi ( ouch) must be cheaper from a tyre dealer, this has a rolling radius of 206.59mm, which only 1 mm different from the full sized wheel. This is a 4” wide rim

I don’t know if it will fit on the front of the car, but it does have the same ET29 offset as the standard alloys so may well do. But you may well need shorter wheel bolts for it.

There’s one on eBay at the moment for £149 plus carriage, but it seems a bit pricy for a second-hand one.

18 inch space saver will fit over the front brakes if they are not ceramic.

I saw that one too and was thinking of getting it anyway. If I go further afiedl like Europe I would probably take a full size spare as I have one but for day to day this space savver may just work.

Remember to throw in a jack too if you are taking a spare wheel with you.

For the national gathering I think the Scottish contingent took about 3 spare wheels with us + trolley jack + wheel brace. No wonder my fuel consumption was pants

You could just get a bottle jack rather than a trolley jack, no wonder your car looked nearly as low as Jules'

I just managed to get a brand new 19" Audi spacesaver for nowt (neighbour works for Audi) :smug face:
