MP3 problem

Post by fletchie55 » Mon Mar 14, 2011 2:29 pm

My RNSE is behaving strangely, I have half filled a non sdhc 4GB memory card with MP3s, the tunes play fine for the first 5-10mins or so, then the stereo just starts skipping down the tracks one after the other, stopping for about 7s on each, not playing then skipping to the next, I left it, and it went through all the albums in the same way!

I dont think the MP3s are corrupt as when I first turn the stereo on I can listen to any track without problems.
I have tried the normal fixes, restart stereo, remove card & try in the other slot etc

Does anyone have any ideas? I have the latest firmware from a 2011 nav disk if this makes any difference.

Cheers

My RNS acts weirdly differently with my SD card, 1X non SDHC 4GB 1X 2GB, I have remove my memory cards then press and hold the radio and setup buttons for 10 secs to reset the RNS, put my SD cards back in and all is good.

I will give it a try!
Do you hold the setup and radio button at the same time, then turn off the unit while still holding them?

yep both at the same time, you don't loose your radio presets, sound settings or anything, it just resets the RNS E I guess it's more like a re-boot

There is no need to press any other buttons than the 2 suggested.

Three different possible problems by the sound of it.

1) Check the file and folder names - the path length must not exceed 64 characeters, or include any characters the RNS-E doesn't accept (some punctuation like ! has caused problems in the past).

2) Check the MP3 tag type the RNS-E only accepts basic ID3.1 tags.

3) Check the SD card type - if it's not a Hi-Speed one I've seen random lockups like Ice Coffee describes.

mine doesn't lock up, it looses the ability to get to the root folder, or if it is in root the ability to see sub folders, any suggestions welcome dave.

Not being able to move between folders is a lock-up

lock-up = doesn't respond to user inputs
