RS4 - The Benchmark

Post by SR71 » Thu Mar 03, 2011 11:21 am

I was struck by two comments in April's EVO Mag.

Pg 18, Wolfgang Hatz, VW Group Engine Boss

Question: How come you're continuing with this type of engine (high-revving non turbo engines) when most are going down the turbocharging route?

Answer: I always look to the RS4 V8.....

Pg 86, Chris Harris McLaren MP4-12C Test Drive

".....We move from damp Welsh circuit (Llandow - my local!) to flooded Welsh Moorland roads. Th conditions would tax an RS4, so I can't believe the way this car dismisses them....."

Seems like the RS4 is the benchmark for some rarified comparisons.

Just read this - its also interesting as some people talk about carbon and engines (RS4 V8) not making power etc - well the engine bosses at VAG seem to rate it and they probably know a thing or two about quality engines...

Praise indeed, for a special car :D

You'd be spewing to not be quantum leaping away from an RS4 in a mclaren though!Suspect it might not be too big a gap in the right conditions....

If you have a copy of Evo, check out the seats in the Jag XKR-S, they appear to be another reference to the RS4!
