About Ceramic Brakes

Hi to all,

i have some concerns about ceramic brake swap.
I bought my b7 rs4 with 8 pot regular rs4 brake system. And then changed it to 380mm Ceramic brake system.
We just changed ; brake calipers, brake pads and brake discs.
Do i need to change anything else for this swap ?
I will change brake fluids and will add SS lines in near future.
My brake pedal is much softer, is that ok ?
Do i need to change the disc dust shield for 380mm rotor ?

Thanks

I think you also have to tell the cars ECU also...something to do with the ABS???

did you reprogramme via VDCS ?

I may be wrong, but im pretty sure the pads slightly wipe against the discs when your wipers go for rain, as ceramics are about as good as an elephant on ice skates when wet

Yes we did the programming.
Changed the ESP and brakes in airbag adaptation.

The airbag controller is completely separate to the ABS controller?

Pedal should feel as firm as steel brakes

This write is from another audi forum and about ceramic brake VAG-COM adaptation.

"Here are the coding instructions from the CD-ROM:

Coding
Possible ESP versions:
Steel Brakes
Brakes in airbag adaptation channel 51: 22
ESP version: 4533
Ceramic Brakes
Brakes in airbag adaptation channel 51: 20
ESP version: 4534"

This is not good. My brake feel is much more different then before.
Any idea about the issue ?
At first i thought that it can be because of the different calipers. 8pot vs 6 pot

I would bleed all 4 brakes a couple of times then go and bed your brakes in - i fitted used ceramics to mine so where already bedded in - i am not sure what pads are like on ceramics that are not bedded in.

i see the big dick points in ceramics but are they really worth the money? i moved from 4 pots to now 8 post and they are very good still bedding the new disks and pads at the moment tho.

After the 8pot, this ceramics are different world imo.
We dont have much speed controls on the autobahns so we can reach high speeds most of the time.
After some hard pushes (especially from 200+km/h) it still holds great.

If you track your car or drive it hard - the consistancy is worth it
