Delayed Start on My RS4

My RS4 sometimes has a delayed start.... have to wait several minutes pushing start button to get her fired up.
Two days back kept switching ignition on/off.. unlocking/unlocking doors then trying to start it up but didnt! So gave up. Then went tried yesterday and it started first time...
Battery is fine.

Its done it before aswell.... just doesnt start up have to keep trying and eventually does.
Is there a common fault with starter motor or something else im not aware of?

Do you mean that the starter turns the engine but the engine doesn't fire or that the starter itself doesn't turn when you press the START button?

Sorry.
The starter turns the engine but the engine doesnt fire up. Can hear the fuel pump ignition clicking but doesnt fire up. Turn ignition off keep trying doesnt happen. Have to try it for several times then eventually fires up.

VAG COM it, could be something stupid like a coolant temp sensor.
How old is yours as these aren't common yet on B7?

I'm thinking immobiliser, but that is based on experience of other vehicles not audis, I don't know how audis react if the key does not authenticate.

Is this on a cold start first thing in the morning? Or does this happen at every start, even if the engine is warm?

If immobiliser, on VW Group cars the engine will run for a second and the die and on 8E A4 SAFE will appear in the LCD display in the cluster

Do a VAG-COM scan on the engine ECUs, I'm wondering about cold start sensor or something like cam position sensor?

Hi fellas.

Apologies about late reply. Normally happens on cold starts only... dont think its happened once its warmed up. Im thinking immobiliser too.... because i hear everything else turning clicking just not starting!

Now saying that i do need to mention ive got a tracker on the car which has Remote Immobilisation on it as a feature.. enabling me to disable the car at the click of a button (not while its in montion though) but im sure that the tracker is not causing the delayed start problem.

PetrolDave cam position sensor sounds expensive! I will get a VAGCOM scan on it soon... hopefully it nothing scary. Seems like its only mine doing it thought it might have been a common issue or something.

Have you seen this thread?

Could your problem be just a more severe case of this issue? In my case I think it's a condensation issue with the ignition electrics.

Hmmmm. I suppose id better ring Tracker company to come look at it first then take it further if its not the remote immobilisation.
Cheers for the input guys.

I had another marque prior to my RS4 and there was a warning in the driver's manual about leaving the key fob too close to the car so that the transponders in the key fob were continuously trnasmitting a signal to the car and the car was 'armed' to unlock the doors. This particular model had keyless entry though and the warning said that having the key fob too close to the car could discharge the battery (this was after you locked up for the night).

Right. My keys are well away from the car... hidden away at night for obvious reasons. Just confusin what it can be. But firstly need to get tracker company to get rid of the obvious suspicion about the delayed start then take it from there.
It can take longer to start if it hasnt been started for coupla days...
