Retro-fit TV to B7 RS4
Retro-fit TV to B7 RS4
Hello folks,
I'm still on the hunt for a low mileage/high-spec example and one of my wants on the car is a TV. I'm now starting to get a bit impatient, so was thinking if I do find a good example with most of the spec on my wish-list, how much would it cost to retro-fit the TV.
I have previously had a TV in a car and found it really handy when waiting for the wife, etc. So this is a must have in the Audi.
Anyone know how much this mod will cost to an 07/B7?
Thanks in advance.
Arron.

P.S. I have tried using the search function, but I keep getting an error message!!

Some good info below. Although, it must be said the prices are for an analogue-to-digital tuner upgrade (which I would say is a must). Not sure of the amount without any pre-existing TV infrastructure; but I'd be very interested to know the costs if you do find out.

Thanks for the contact Andre. I just called and the chap says that with no existing tv equipment fitted, I'm looking at about £1100 for a digital tv set-up.
Its pricey, but seriously worth considering if I am to be happy with the package.
Has anyone had this done to their cars? Is it a tidy job? Any other contacts?
Cheers,
Arron.

I had TV on my first S4 but watched it so little (on the move the picture broke up), so I didn't bother spending the money on it when I ordered my RS4 - can't say I've missed it.
Upgrading analogue to digital requires only a TV tuner swap not the fitment of the changed antenna system and the installation of the wiring - BUT the tuner is the expensive part.

Presumably that's because it was analogue? Any ideas how stable a digital image would be? Also, would you be able to pickup some of the digital radio stations?PetrolDave wrote:I had TV on my first S4 but watched it so little (on the move the picture broke up)
Still £1100 is painful

Digital radio also works on these units but none of it works very well in motion, the problem with digital is it either works or it doesn't there is no frosty picture when the signal is weakened, it just stops, I would say it is worse than analogue. Dab radio is designed for use in motion and will give a better signal, there is currently no factory option for dab for our units, which stuns me as that means all the brand new 2011 tt a3 s3 r8 vehicles can not have dab (or a2dp stereo bluetooth).

I would expect digital to be much worse - digital needs a stronger signal strength (which is why we've had to fit bigger TV aerials to our houses).andre3000 wrote:Presumably that's because it was analogue? mine came with the TV option...tried it once or twice to make sure it worked
Never remotely thought about using it since
interesting how differently we use our transport

IMHO digital will be even worse than analogue - because of the need for a strong signal with minimum multipath so that the digital signal can be decoded.max_b wrote:The analogue version of the TV you get in the RS4 is useless, you'd have to upgrade to Digi in the future also.
And when they start transmitting Freeview HD it will only get worse as the coding scheme allows greater compression but reduces the noise margin before the signal becomes impossible to decode on ALL channels even the normal definition (SD) ones.
