After an extended period of time and much mental too'ing and fro'ing I have decided it is unlikely I will get an RS4, the fact is, the sums just are not adding up for me, I only have 26K to spend which is limiting me to the old and tatty examples. The fact is I can get newer lower mileage better looked after S5's for my money, and whilst it is not as much of a car, and will cost me more in depreciation I think it is the right way for me to go at present!

did u not go see that muggy cab at Finchley Road audi ?

they'll let it go for 26k between xmas and new year

I would have thought there were quite a few examples out there for that money dependent on what you are looking for, especially saloons.

As for mileage, the high milers are likely to be better run unless the low mileage ones are enthusiasts cars. These engines are supposedly good for 150k miles without serious maintenance; mine has 78k miles on it at 4.5 years old and still has the same power it did when I got it and the engine hasn't been touched.

my old saloon sold at 75k and was perfect !

a BIG BIG problem trying to find one of these cars is the condition of the bolsters IMO

I was lucky I bought my first at 65k and they were perfect, and now iv got my 18k cab, they are also perfect

but alot of buggered bolsters out there !

Fair point but places like Furniture Clinic could sort that out for £200 per seat or get a replacement cover for circa £400 per section and haggle that off the asking price.

I am still trying for now but I have had some rejections, for that money ! that muggy at finchley road is near perfect but a bit higher mileage than I was hoping for.

So what you going to get then, a S5, bit of a barge ain't they compared to a B7 RS4.

S5 ??????????? you will regret it,its a very so so average at everything car like the S4,Dont do it just wait,for your budget i think you may have to open up your mileage criteria but just look for a well cared for example,ive just got back in mine after 3 weeks in a so so tdi theres simply no comparison the RS4 is awesome in everyway

Couldnt agree more Sonny,dull handling vague steering,not a rewarding drive at all in the twisties,you will get hammered way more on depreciation if you opt to chop it in for an rs4 dealers arent daft they know whats hot n whats luke warm.Hang on mate honestly

Yep my friends had one when they first came out, great looking motor, but that's about it. He was in more awe of the RS4 I was in that his "Gucci" S5 with red leather

I did and got a spotless 45k mota for £27k with everything I wanted in it.

Be patient (not a blokes greatest attribute I agree).

Hold out for the RS4. The S5 is not in the same league.
I have been looking for ages but have been really fussy and missed out on a few.
If I can't find the right RS4 soon I will be going for a GTR. In fact by the end of Jan 2011
The RS4 makes more sense though.
Was thinking about the RS3, but just the sound of the RS4!!!!
