Blue smoke

So I went to test drive an Imola avant (black optics / black wheels) at an independant garage a few months ago. I got the dealer to start and move the car out of its parking slot as there was some sweet machines parked close.
I stood behind the car and when it fired up, for the first 5 - 10 seconds there was an alarming amount of blue smoke. Is this normal? (btw the car had only covered ~19000mls)

Many cars do this on startup (eg. Porsches).

Sonny, it was a 2007MY IIRC, the private plate was P15 TOF 'pi$$ed off'
If this is normal then thats cool, doesn't it bother people that expensive sports cars like these and porsches etc chuck blue smoke out like some clapped out old escort?

SW0090 update needed maybe?
or even SW0080 as many seemingly well serviced cars have missed this
Having said that mine has 0080 and if moved around a lot when cold will puff a bit never does it if I just get in and go.
Or if I get home, turn off, open garage, start up and move it when still warm, never then either.
SW0090 is for misfires as it revs more at cold idle to burn the excess fuel off, not smoke, so Audi told me anyway

thanks! I've got a non official vagcom that I've used on a mkIV golf / skoda octavia. Will this work to check software etc? I understand the newer VAG cars require some sort of CANBUS capable equipment?

RS4 work best with a HEX-CAN lead.

That's right, but I was informed that SW0090 incorporates SW0080 also.
