Cracked windscreen!!
Cracked windscreen!!
Oh well it was inevitable it was going to happen one day. At Brands a stone hit my windscreen causing a 9'' crack on windscreen in driver view. Quote from Audi for new windscreen (Saint-Gobain) inc VAT was £207
A lot cheaper than a BMW Mini. fitting will be around £70.

RE: Cracked windscreen!!
Surely with a car like that you are fully comp insured, if so just say the stone hit you on the motorway some time and let them get autoglass to come fit a new one for you. better the excess of 50 than the whole whack of 277

I will look into insurance, however have been put off regarding another forums members recent dramas he had with Autoglass and not providing the OEM manufacturer. plus they always hike up your premium when you claim on the windscreen.

could not agree more. it is a bit of a lag take, autoglass not fitting oem replacements, but a cheaper copy and they dont let you know.. wonder if you could insist on a oem replacement ?sonny wrote:I will look into insurance, however have been put off regarding another forums members recent dramas he had with Autoglass and not providing the OEM manufacturer. plus they always hike up your premium when you claim on the windscreen.

Gonna get rid of my crappy autoglass windscreen fitted two years ago to my B5 on Monday, have found they are not very durable at all loads of pitting in it over the lat two years, been recommended old school windscreens in Chertsey, Surrey. They do insurance jobs as well, will let you know how it is.
Don't believe a word of what Autoglass say. Not quick in pointing out that as much as your windscreen excess os £75, your premium will go up to £200 at renewal because it is now classed as claim. And it is not an OEM screen either.
Get a OEM Saint Gobain screen and find someone to fit it. To add to all of my Autoglass woes, they have bodged my light sensor because it is pretty much on constantly now and doesn't have the intensity range. Can you alter that in VCDS?

If you say to your insurance u want a oem windscreen they have to fit one, they have to fit all oem bits if its in a accident and you can put your car in any garage you want to repair your car its your right, you might have to give um a bit of <beep> but if your covered they have to fix it. Go to any windscreen company and say u want your screen done on insurance and u want a oem glass if they want the work they will do the rest
With the Golf I was lucky as it had a blue tint exclusive to the R32 so after insisting they got one with the correct tint it was the OEM screen. The fitter was really good too, had a vintage Ford Mexico he was restoring + let me route the wires for the phone neatly & clear out all the leaves & gunk before he fitted the new screen so some of it is down to luck of which fitter you get but the screen is an issue of they get away with "compatible" screens
Mines got the sun strip but i dont have the rain sensors! it was replaced by Autoglass and they asked if it was a tinted front screen, I said it was and they fitted it and did a bloody good job,
must just come down to whoever fits the screen and if they can be arsed to do it carefully.
Sonny, Will Audi actually fit the glass or will they get someone in to do it?

Cheers fella strange as my glass is OEM, by tinted do you mean that dark strip at the top that resembles a stun strip or is the glass slightly tinted (if you know what I mean). Audi have a fitter that comes out to there location (they hold the glass). However I have the option of him coming to me.
