Urrrggghhh - think Im gonna get 3 points on my license

Post by drbru » Wed Nov 03, 2010 11:18 am

Got pulled over by a police car doing 45 mph in a 30 zone late last night

What can I say, my mind was elsewhere

ANy idea how much 3 points will make my insurance premium jump up by? Its clean otherwise

They are debating something similar over on the Porsche Club GB forum. One of the members seems to be solicitor or similar and just quoted

"The Sentencing Guidlines Council allow magistrates to ban motorists for the following:

In a 20 & 30 MPH limit - 11 mph over. That is only 41 mph in a 30 limit
In a 40 & 50 mph limit - 16 mph over. That is only 56 mph in a 40 limit.
In a 60 & 70 MPH limit - 21 mph over. So just 91 mph on a motor way may result in a ban!

Interestingly, you will not go to jail for a charge of speeding. The CPS will have to bring a charge of dangerous driving, though you could end up in custody for an incident involving excessive speed or showing off! You would still have to be charged with dangerous driving under section 2 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. "

Fingers crossed you get the 3 points and not a summons etc

just been through something similar myself (this year) you will get 3 points and fine. i was caught by a policeman with a laser gun and was a bit over the speed you were caught at thus having to go to court.

wow that has now got me worried!...I was given an on the spot fine....Im under the impression that it was just £60 fine which I have now paid and 3 points on my license..

I put my hands up and said very apologetically to the police man and I quote

"my head is all over the place, I apologies for speeding and will not argue as I know I was at fault"......(me)

"Why is your head all over the place?" (officer)

"My wife and 5 month old baby are critically ill in hopsital"....(me)

"That is not my problem" (officer)

If this hadnt of been a policeman saying this, I would have done some serious damage to the individual to saying that!

its done with then. if you were to go to court he would not have given you the fine or points. except notified you that you will be written to by the court etc. relax mate no need to worry its over with.

Just got a policy yesterday for my newly acquired RS4.
As soon as I mentioned the 3 points I received last May "All" quotes went up by about 150 quid !

6 years no claims, mid 40's, parked off street... seemingly a safe bet!

I thought the extra £150 was a bit steep but could seem to escape it, no matter which companies I approached.

Yups .. they went fixed penalty .. he'd have told you if there was an "Intent to prosecute" ie send the issue to court at the time he pulled you .. so chill looks like your not off to court .. its fixed penalty

You MIGHT even get a "re training" offer .. ie double the cost and reduction in points (three to zero or six to three depending on if its a SP30 or SP60) and have to go spend half or a full day been educated on "evil speeding".

Which Police force was it ? Do you do the Re-education scheme ?

You jammy so-and-so!

For doing 71 in a 50 Thames Valley Police offered me either:

- 3 points plus £60 plus £80 to go on a 1/2 day driving awareness course (the most wasted 1/2 day I've ever had where some plonker said you MUST drive in 3rd gear in a 30mph limit - so if I sneeze I'll be going real fast before my eyes open again, what a tw*t!)

- a visit to the Magistrates court.

Speed cameras are on borrowed time

I was going to say there will always be a policeman on a roadside though but they'll prob be too busy for that with all their cuts
