Brakes Warping

Post by Gingers4 » Tue Oct 26, 2010 5:23 pm

My RS 4 had new disc's & pads all round at 28 k , I purchased it at 30, 500K and had it booked in for a service. It started vibrating a few days before the service and the newly fitted front pads were replaced under parts warranty as they had warped !! The replacment pads are now warped at 31,800 K and my dealer is investigating the problem. Possibly a damaged hub.?
Is this common ?
Only had it 3 months and really missing my M3 which never missed a beat ( unless it snowed , when it was beyond <beep> )
Any thoughts folks ?

Had similar issues with my RS4, eventually ended up with new disks and pads all round. Touch wood, no issues since...

Warped pads? I have never heard of that. Warped discs yes, it depends on the bedding in proceedure and if it has been done properly.

I had issues every 5-10k miles with mine until I changed to EBC yellowstuff pads. Less dust to clog the holes which is where the high heat spots eminate from and more agressive. My discs have only just started juddering again adfter 23k miles usage but as some will say these brakes do need to be worked hard and heated up which may be my downfall.

Audi really let themselves down when it comes to brakes, not just on the RS4 but, I have read, also on the R8. i can only put it down to cost-cutting. I had huge issues with my frt disks on my RS4 and eventually went for the big Brembo conversion which made a huge difference. It's what should have been on the car from launch. I have read so many stories about RS4 disks warping, Audi shouldn't be allowed to get away with it!

It's not just Audi though is it, it's Brembo as well. They supply the discs for the RS4,6 R8 and TT-RS and they are all below par. Audi gave them a specification and budget and Brembo said they could produce brakes that would work when in some instances they can't / don't. When you look at the 380mm discs look how much bigger the cross drilled holes are the the central air gap is.

Brembo were given a spec by Audi...along with a price.

You are right; however you would have to say Brembo said they could do the job with that spec and that price and haven't delivered. They could have said no.

I was dubious but have to admit EBC yellow stuff have stopped the slight juddering I was beginning to develop even after just a tiny mileage from fitment of new discs/pads.
So much better pad in both response and feel. Confidence inspiring. Best £238 (all round) you will spend  8)
