07 RS4 seats.
07 RS4 seats.
Hi folks, apologies if this has been asked before. I have been trawling through the various threads on here and have gotten alot of fantastic information already. I am looking to buy an 07, as I test drove one yesterday and fell in love with it. I have a few questions, but the first one I have is:
I was under the impression that when you press the "S" button on the steering wheel, the seats were meant to "inflate"?? to hold you in. I pressed the button and there was no "inflation". Would this be an optional extra, or would the seat be knackered, or am I misguided? The car in question has 27k on the clock and is mint.
Thanks,
Arron.

Arron - I'm still learning about the RS4 B7, but maybe I can help.
Did the car have bucket seats or electric recaros - only the bucket seats have the inflatable bolsters linked to the sport button.
Were you in the drivers seat or passenger?; only the drivers seat bolsters inflate with the sport button; on the passenger side, you need to use the two switches on the right hand side of the seat.
Regards, Gary

Hi Gary, thanks for the fast reply!!
I was driving and they were electric recaros, so that answers my question. I am trying to get up to speed with the RS4, before I commit to blowing a hefty wad on one!! I dont want to buy one, without finding out all I need to know about them. I have bought a couple of cars before whilst a bit excited after a test drive, only to find things wrong, or spec I thought it had, but didnt. I have a few more questions and will ask them if I cant find the answers on here.
Any general advice would be appreciated on things to check, etc, would be great. Perhaps an AA full check would be a smart move when your spending this much cash.
Any thoughts?
Oh, and another one I have is about the Audi extended warranty. Any information about that would be useful too.
Thanks,
Arron.

hi you are right about pressing the "s" button should make the bolsters in the seat inflate however they can be disabled in the DIS so when the s button is pressed the exhaust flaps open and the throttle response sharpens but the seat remains uninflated.
however a few people on here have had problems with the valves in the seats me inclueded, mine went at about 25000 miles ish so not impossible that the seat in the car you looked at could be broke.
this can be a costly repair if not covered under warranty so do a bit more investigating to see if its just disabled or knakered....

b7rs4 phantom black, titan pack.
lol na mate just when i think of what makes my rs4 great, i think of the 4.2 v8 engine, the subtle but aggresive wide body, the quattro grip, and the interior with them buckets and the flat bottom steering wheel.it was just meant to be this way!Ha ha, sounds like this is a bit of a dig at a few folk on here!! Very Happy

p.s dont forget the exhaust note!!!

Aaron - I placed a deposit on one yesterday, so I know exactly how you feel. Like all cars, there are some potential issues, but they are robust well built cars. For what it's worth, here are some of the things I looked out for when buying:
wear on drivers seat bolster if the car is fitted with buckets
edc (suspension) can lose pressure or leak, so if possible check for knocking noises or moistuire around the struts (although Audi cover them for 5 years/75,000 miles - plenty of information on here about that!)
If the car has been owned by a forum member or enthusiast, it may have had a rolling road test to verify power output; this is a nice thing to have - again lots of posts on here about that.
brakes are expensive, so check condition of discs and when they were last changed
coming from BMW, I assumed auto lights and wipers were standard; they are not - although not a big deal
exhaust valves can stick; check that when the sport button is pressed, the valves open conrrectly and the noise from the exhaust changes; also there should be a noticable surge at around 5,500 rpm
A warranty is worthwhile, but check what it covers.
From my research there are some very good, well cared for cars available. IMHO, and I thought long and hard about this, a private sale from an enthusiast may be a good option (obviously HPI etc); main dealer experiences seem mixed, but you do have the back-up if a major problem occurs. I would personally be very wairy of low price cars from non-franchised non specialist dealers; cars with many of the above faults seem to end up here, as they don't necessarly know the pitfalls of these cars so buy from trade or auction vehicles which have common faults.
Good Luck!
