Flat Battery

Post by kenny225 » Sun Sep 26, 2010 7:10 am

Typically I'm not in the UK at the moment and the wife's phoned to tell me that both the key fobs cant unlock the car, looks like the battery in the car is flat!!!

Since she cant get the car open she cant jump it, any ideas how you unlock the car without battery power ?

Any help appreciated

Of course the manual is also in the car!!!!!

You should be able to open the car with the key, even then the plastic/graphite emergency key will do this, one thing you will need a good booster pack to jump these cars there not your average car battery. Jump point will be under the bonnet. You should purchase a trickle charger Kenny, I have my car in lock up for up to 3 months at a time, and car is fine.

She cant get the boot open to check the battery, but on reflection I believe you can jump the car from terminals under the bonnet?

If so I'I get her to try that

The car just had the battery tray recall done about 3 weeks ago, might be that the terminals are not on correctly, seems strange that the battery has shown no signs of failure up to this point then bang, dead as a dodo in one night.

Im sure there is a key hole located below the 4th Audi logo ring next to the numberplate bulb.

You can jump the car from the points under the bonnet.

Just be careful taking the plastic cover panel off to access the bonnet terminal points - needs a little care as it's very easy to break the lugs off.....

When my battery when flat a couple of years ago (because of a chep eBay multimedia interface) I simply unlocked the car by putting the key into the lock on the drivers door. Then I opened the bonnet, slide the cover over where the battery usually goes on an A4 or S4 to the side, and jump started using the terminals under there.

One thong to bear in mind - once flat a battery will suffer (crystals form on the metal plates). Volt reading will be fine but it won't hold amp/charge. Best to get a conditioner as this can restore the capacity of the unit
