I'm sure I've seen this posted but can't seem to find it.
I'd like to send my alloys away for refurb (to the original colour). What is the paint code I need to quote ?

The colour is Avus silver, but not the body colour paint - there is a different code used for the standard alloys.
Wheel paint code = Z17
(Body paint code = Y7J)

I think you might struggle to find that paint these days.
In the end (I recently refurbed 8 wheels myself - what a PITA that is - 1 day per wheel including all the prep) I used this stuff:

the Wurth stuff is very good
'german silver', pretty much BBS color

Audi sell a kit, Avus Silver and laquer. By quoting the paint code they should be able to identify the kit. I have bought 2 sets in the last year. I will try and dig out the full part number.
The Würth paint is OK but not 100% spot on. Small areas will blend well enough but larger areas will definitely show up the contrasting shades.

Agree with you BlingBling.
Coz I was doing the whole wheel the contrast didn't matter.
It is difficult to get a OEM finish as well. The Wurth nozzle creates a spray pattern that means, even post sanding with 1200W&D and lacquering, the finish is almost textured.
Hard to describe and I'm not an expert in paint but for a second set of wheels in both cases, I was super pleased with the results. Quite satisfying after all the ballache prepping....
Not sure if I'm doing something wrong...
FWIW.

The paint codes came from my wheel refurbisher - just from personal experience, if you give them to the right folks you will get an exact match to an OEM alloy
