Buying an RS4 without warenty

My search still going on for a RS4 , there are qute a few cars which i would consider except the warenty has lapsed and the nearly 4 k to put one back on is a bit rich in my mind.
How much risk is there in buying one of these and self insuiering , i.e putting the 3800 in a pot for repairs , if the DRC whcih seems the biggest issue i put coilovers on it.
I read about the carbon issues , how real are these and would they be a warrety claim if the car did start getting down on power, anything else i have missed.

I didn't renew the warranty this year as I couldn't justify the cost of renewing it which was 50% higher than last year. So I (and others on here) are "self insured".
Carbon is an emotive issue and you'll get different reactions. But here's my 2p worth...
In the vast majority of cases power loss has been down to a problem with either the vacuum system (usually a pipe becoming detached) or one of the flaps (power flap or inlet tumble flaps) sticking/jaming.
The (very few) cases of power loss that have resulted in an investigation by Audi have usually found an engine fault, either due to driver/owner error or a genuine faulty build (very rare).
Others will have different views, but as said that's my 2p worth.

Almost wary of typing this ! how does warrenty direct stack up when you actualy have to claim ! my experiances in the past with simmilar insurance type warrenty have been dire.
Do they cover main dealer labour rates .

Most warranties won't cover "service" items - this includes shocks so read the small print first.

I bought a Nov 06 Avant at the beginning of April from the stealer, so it came with the Audi approved warranty. So far I have had the cruise control and oil cooler/pipes replaced. The oil cooler/pipes (£1200 job) was effectively down to corrosion, so I doubt Warranty Direct would of paid for that.
Having said that, in the past (3 years ago) Warranty Wise paid £3K out on my old TT (air con compressor, 2 window motors, dashpod).

There seems to be a lot of negativity towards WD unjustified in my opinion as there hasnt (to my knowledge) yet been a post on here about problems claiming - it is all "i doubt this i doubt that" ... Of course you can read horror stories on the web. But just look on here about carbon - you still bought the car didnt you?
A few of us have done some research into their policy and if you follow what we have said in our previous posts then i think you are onto a winner. (Make sure you get the luxury care policy). Only time will tell of course.
My experience with the 'official' extended warranty is crap and i wouldnt renew even if the price had stayed the same.

Keith yes they fully cover main dealer labour rates. You dont even have to specify what your local dealers rate is like you do have to do with Warrantywise.

A few of us have had a deal of £750.
Read page 6 of this thread to see what we have covered - make sure you get the Luxurycare poilcy = best. My car was outside the age range for it but i managed to negotiate it in along with the rest.

I had leaking intercoolers rejected on my Audi warranty claiming corrosion ... For fat lot £2,400 gets you (thats the renewal price on an RS 6)
My girlfriend has WD on her A2 and has claimed 2 or 3 times no problems
