what did they say?
the deposits caused the scoring?
or were a consequence of another fault?
like 'coned' or ' oval'ed ' cylinder bores?

are the bores nikasil?

When I was picking my car up the tech was putting the engine back together to send back to Audi technical ,As before they didn't say Arthur I think they will say once the engine gets back to them to have a look for therselfs ,The cylinders are nikasil lined and there was scoring ! I only got a look in one bank as the head was already put on the other side but every bore had some sort of scoring ,As I said I wasn't going to post until my car was back ,I am more than happy with the result of this ,even driving slowly the car feels much more responsive and the 2000 rpm missfire has disappeared so all good

Just under 60k ,the carbon build up seems unavoidable the only thing they did say was that coldstart has a part to play ,with the latest software update it helps , still hasn't put me off the car tho!!

This isn't a carbon build up thread ,it's to show people inside the engine and maybe get an opinion from Audi as to why my Audi needed an engine ,as it seems to be a gray area.

No dig at you K3ukr your post didnt mention CBU, just most threads end up 13 pages long covering old ground.
Glad you got your car back and you are happy with it, must be like getting a new car. :D

No problem ,it's great they gave me a brand new a4 tdi to drive I think the b7 is better to drive tho ,I hope ppl don't keep asking about cbu ,just wait a couple of days and hopefully have an explanation from Audi !

What we need to know is if it's a one off due to manufacturing issues or whether it will eventually happen to all cars.
I think every model of every make will have had one example that has needed an engine by 60k miles and that includes Honda!

Was that replaced under the 3 year manufacturer's warranty or the approved used warranty?

When I bought my car from the dealer they had a silver saloon on the forecourt which just had a new engine fitted.
