DRC Warranty

Hi,

I've recently acquired my 06 RS4 and am loving the car but now looks like I have encountered the weeping DRC syndrome.

I did have the car booked in at Oxford Audi but according to them there is no 5 year warranty or other extended service applicable to the DRC shocks and it's a fully payable item.

This seems to go against much of what I've read about it - whats the best way to pursue this?

If it is the oil bump stop, does anybody know how big a deal to repair and how much?

They're idiots - it's at the very least a "goodwill" repair if you have a FASH fully paid for by Audi UK, but in some cases they will pay up in full anyway (I got mine done last month by Portsmouth Audi at no cost to me even though I don't have a FASH).

Tell them to speak to Audi UK, and to find ( and read) the circular that was sent to ALL Audi UK dealers a couple of years ago regarding the DRC 5 year/ 75,000 mile warranty extension.

If they still play dumb, then go to another dealer - I'd suggest you consider Camberley Audi.

There is a FASH and only covered 24k miles. Shame, as otherwise it's pristine.

I did think it quite odd as I'm late to the party so thought everybody would know - Oxford Audi even apparently went away to find out and called me back after a couple hours saying they'd never heard of it. Called Aylesbury Audi and completly different story - walked through the process (The TSB has pictures saying 'this is ok' and 'this is bad') and can see me quicker. All in all far easier to deal with!

I'll see what they say on Wednesday and go from there.

Will do - should have the diagnosis tomorrow and see what happens.
My research and gut feel makes me think it's the oil bump stop.

Diagnosis is that it's a sweating DRC shock and not a failed unit.
Oh, also had an oil system recall but not sure what it was.

Acording to the history it's had one shock replaced in it's past but not sure if it was the good or bad un.

Risk of an oil leak due to corrosion/rubbing of the pipes going to the oil cooler

Changing only 1 shock is a seriously bad idea, they should always be changed in at least pairs (whole axle). I'd be hassling them to get the fronts both replaced. Leaking shock absorbers can be an MOT failure (if bad enough), but it's at least a warning item.

Audi UK have become arrogant because their sales have not only held up but actually increased during the current financial crisis.

So they seem happy to let dealers whose product knowledge and customer service are woeful remain in the delaer network.

Remember how much damage to a name can be caused by bad dealers - it was bad enough for Lancia to pull out of the UK.

did they test system pressure?
do you know the value?

at what mileage/date was the previous shock replaced (this would give us an idea of what the system pressure was at that time ~15-16 bar) and if we know it now, we can determine the rate it's leaking...
