Vibration

Post by bigi » Mon Jul 05, 2010 12:56 pm

Hi

I experience a vibration in my RS4 (25000 miles) through the pedals, and also the steering wheel, when stationary and in neutral as well as when moving, at around 1500 rpm (plus or minus 300rpm). It is a high frequency vibration that does not feel particularly pleasant, but I have been told by my Audi dealer that other RS4s do this as well, and that it is a natural engine vibration. It does not feel like one to me and I wondered if anyone else has experienced anything similar. It is so off-putting that it virtually ruins the driving experience, but I don't know what to do now the dealer has told me it is normal/OK.

Any dealer that says that vibration is normal is worth naming and shaming, and NEVER going to again.

Take it to a dealer who knows what they're talking about... whereabouts do you live so we can make suggestions?

I just checked mine...fully warmed up, only in neutral

if I really 'feel' for it, it's there, barely, some natural harmonic
I mean I had to actually put my hand (too low level to feel thru my shoes, perhaps I should have been barefoot, lol)on the clutch or brake pedal to feel it! nothing thru the steering wheel...
you were spot on 1500 +/- 300 rpm...
I can feel it, but can't hear anything...

it's more pronounced (although still barely perceptable) thru the clutch...wondering if it's the dual mass flywheel or something...

Might want to check wheel Balancing and if you still have the problem then also check the wheels for any buckles

the OP (and I) noticed when the car was stationary...

in my case, it's barely perceptable, I don't consider it an issue...

Thanks for your replies everyone. As it occurs when stationary (as well as when moving) it can't be brake pads/wheels etc. I think I will take it to another dealer for a second opinion as even though it is not a massive vibration, I don't see how it can be right if you can feel it through your shoes. It is an unpleasant tingling feeling. I live in Surrey and there are several dealers fairly close by. I think the mechanic at the original dealer had thick soled boots on and I am not sure he really noticed it although I sat in the car with him and I thought that he had felt it.

I had a similar vibration in mine and it was the power steering pump as the fluid was a bit low.

funny you mention that, I checked mine and there's an TSB out on the level...it needs to be max +10 mm (when hot) at max cold

I'll try to post it...this is the older one, still applies
