Following on from our Euro tour here are a few Q's for you based on facts and figures given to us on the factory tour. I'd be interested to see what people put down as answers and those who were there you get no prizes for answering!

1/How many R8's are produced on an average day?
2/ Of those produced how many are a) V8's; b)V10's c)spyders?
3/ Where was the B7 RS4 manufactured?
4/ How long does it take start to finish to build an A6?
5/ How long does it take to 'marry' an A8 engine / transmission / suspension assembly to the A8 body?
6/ How may cars do you think are built at Neckarsulm every day? And of that number how many are built to order?

So here are the answers;

1/How many R8's are produced on an average day? 17

3/ Where was the B7 RS4 manufactured?Ingolstadt on the A4 production line, only RS parts are put on to the car at Quattro GmbH

4/ How long does it take start to finish to build an A6?30 minutes!
5/ How long does it take to 'marry' an A8 engine / transmission / suspension assembly to the A8 body?3 minutes, right before our eyes!
6/ How may cars do you think are built at Neckarsulm every day?1000 And of that number how many are built to order?1000

I think we were all amazed at how quickly they could build an A6. 90 seconds to install a complete dashboard! And Neckarsulm is one of the smallest facilities, Ingolstadt produces double the number of cars of Neckarsulm.

All engines are built and developed in Hungary, on the R8's they have a dyno cell but it is used at the end of production to ensure it produces the power figure quoted from Hungary and that they have installed it properly. Believe me it is not like Nisaan or Honda, I would recommend anyone interested in the technical bits of their Audi should go.

Quick question for you P_G

Do they make an entire car in Ingolstadt and then move it to Quattro GmbH where they take bits of and replace them or do they ship an incomplete car to quattro? I've always wondered..

The chassis, gearbox, engine and major components are assembled at Ingolstadt and then shipped so that the RS parts can be added at Neckarsulm. The body panels for example are done at Ingostadt, not Neckarsulm.

The RS6 is a different proposition because the A6 production facility is at Necakrsulm although again the majority of it is built on the main A6 assembly.

So for those who are saying true RS's are built at Neckarsulm only the RS2, RS6 (C5 and C6) and R8 are true to that statement and even then all of their engines come pre-assembled from Hungary and the R8's gearboxes are from Lamborghini (it has a Lambo Bull and 4 rings stamped on it)

I just found it interesting and quite scary how quickly A6's and in fact all volume prduction Audi's were produced. And it's scary to think a dealership can take up to 2 hours to put a bumper back on; they were fitting them to A8's in the factory in less than a minute and that included linking up fans and associated pipework!

30 minutes - astonishing.

Obviously all the sub assemblies are put together somewhere else so in theory it is just plug and play?

Someone mentioned kaizen in another topic - well here is a great example.

Saw a good program on the R8 assembly on National Geo. channel. Megafactories think it was called.
