DRC Failure - again.

Post by rs4v8 » Mon Jun 14, 2010 10:28 pm

P.O.S DRC has broken again. Rears this time. Spewing it is putting it mildly. Clonck thump, from the right rear this time. Visual inspection confirmed what I already knew. Oil everywhere.

There was a letter here somewhere from some senior guy in Audi stating that the DRC had been given a 5 year warranty. Will be very grateful if someone could send me this. Can't seem to find it.

Warranty / maintenance plan ran out a couple of months ago too. FFS.....

Sorry to hear this. AFAIK, all Audi dealers should b aware of the situation - 5 years, 75k miles. The letter came from Jeremy Hicks, MD of Audi UK.

Is this the 1st time the rears have failed? Do you know what generation of dampers you are on? The latest- Gen 3 - is claimed to be better.

Cool, that's good to hear. Hopefuly the Audi semaphore has reached the north of scotland!!

Didn't realise we were on gen3 shocks now. I had the fronts replaced abut a year ago and I believe they were the gen2 items. The rears weren't changed at that time as they weren't leaking. The back right one is now - in a big way and I'm not f*&king happy!!

This unhappy camper is going back to BMW at the earliest opportunity........

Should I be asking for all four shocks to be changed this time?

AFAIK there have only been two versions for the RS4 - the original, and the update from about 18 months ago. The latter still fail, but nowhere near as frequently...

That sounds right. In a recent conversation with Audi, I was told there have been hardly any DRC failures on the C6 RS6 - is that Gen 4 then?
This is all I could find on the C6 RS6 forum under DRC:
http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... hlight=drc

They don't expect any failures with the RS5.

They don't expect any failures because they don't expect to sell any!

To be fair, DRC failure is not that common on the C6 RS6. The EDC on BMW's failed too since it's introduction in 1987...

At least they have the choice in mainland Europe of the faster sports suspension for the RS5, rather than the DRC I expect is the only option in the UK.

With the small UK allocation, I expect they will sell them quite easily.

And the reviews are getting better. I expect 911 owners will also be drawn to the charms of the RS5.

Spot on sonny. So it sounds like the ones that have failed albeit an inconvenience are the Gen2's and now they need replacing with the Gen3's which you now already have on the front. The policy is only to replace those affected; I would suspect that the fronts should be good but for peace of mind why don't you ask to visually inspect them wiht the tech?

Car is booked in for monday next week to have DRC checked / repaired. Covered by extended DRC warranty as described on here. Dealership were well aware of the 5 year DRC warranty - relieved as I am, I'm not terribly sure that them being well aware of it is a good indication!!

Thanks folks. :beerchug:
