Post by allan1609 » Wed Jun 09, 2010 10:50 am

Hi, going to change my panel filter from the oe paper one to either a k & n or bmc.

What are most people on here using?

Cheers
Allan

Both good.
Minimal power gain if at all.
BMC for my money
I've got one.

Im using a BMC, these can be purchased now at Euro Car parts.

Others are K&N and ITG (foam filter).

You will notice a slight change in throttle noise, for the better.

BMC for me also. Their filter is the same price as an OEM one so I bought two and a cleaning kit so I can rotate them at leisure. Usually do this every 5k miles for optimum performance.

I was thinking about this the other day as well. So there is no gain in power just throttle response and noise??

If it is done with a modified exhaust you may get more, if on an OEM system 1-2hp at most but mostly for the induction noise.

Cheers for the link.

Looks like its bmc for me also.

Are europarts still the best place to get one?

I've seen dyno tests where the K&N added 5-7HP on an RS4 with an ecu upgrade...
probably ~the same on a stock car, ~1%
considering that the filter is the largest press drop restriction in the air path (other than the throttle) it's not surprising

'Champion Racing' aka Audi Sport North America run ITG filters.

I found they gave the best aural improvement to the standard exhaust system over BMC and K&N and also are effectively 'fit and forget'....but I still clean it anyway

Just ordered myself a BMC panel from BMC themselves, a right rigmarole to order - register here, confirm this and that! Anyways its on its way! £47 I think

not expecting much from it - but a slightly beefier growl when the throttles snapped open would be cool - again and mentioned before, I think the sound proofing of these cars is of the highest order and doesnt give a true impression of their thunderous volume and rumble from outside anyway.

happy days.... hmm what exhaust ........

hmm should I even ask about "insurance declaration" on a replacement (like for like, less maintenance long lasting etc etc blah blah) "non perfromance enhancing" product such as a panel filter?????
