SW0090 added today

Took the car in for a service (4th service at 30k), Oil and filter change, Pollen filter change.

Had new front OEM Discs fitted today (Thanks Philwalker) and had EBC yellow stuff fitted front and rear, difference was amazing, even though they have not yet bedded in! My old pads was totally shot, and the 4 pins was seen coming through.

Also had SW0090 uploaded to my car, I was still on SW0040. The SW overwrite my MRC Remap as it would, and the difference was phenomenal, one thing I did notice was how quiet the car was on start up, on tick over the exhaust is now quiet, the car now feels like it is "tamed".

Im having the MRC Remap uploaded next week with some other goodies added

Sonny, did you have all this done at Audi? (discs and pads) if so did they just charge you for the fitting?

Im surprised you didn't have newer SW given MRC have mapped it, they usually upload a base map which is either 0080 or 0090 and tweak accordingly?

Outlaw yes Audi fitted them for me I supplied the pads and discs.

Nikk the SW0090 if a up dated software for the engine ECU, there as been numerous updates (this one solves a cold start up issue).

PR. It was identified at MRC that I had the old SW but was advised to get the latest added and then re-uploaded.

how can you check which SW0090 SW0040 are you on?

possibly vag.com, other than that you need someone to read the ecu... Audi or a tuner i'd imagine

Yep as above, dealer hooked it upto there computer, gives fault codes and what SW you are running. Updating to SW0090 also has the other SW updates too.

VAG-COM shows the SW version when you connect to the engine ECUs (addresses 01 and 11).

SW0090 fixes a rich cold start problem and is only available on request - it's not offered automatically when you take your car to a dealer.

0090 - without this, does the car 'roar' into life on the first start? I think i actually quite like that...Im even fond of starting the car when the door's open!

On an aside, as someone said this is only done on request - how many of the other recalls need to be requested? I thought Audi would've just done them when you came in for a service.

My understanding was that SW0090 was incepted to cure a particular problem with cold-starting that affected a certain range of chassis numbers.

When I asked for it, I was refused for the aforementioned reason.

However, when I discovered that SW0080 causes an oscillatory airflow rate as measured by the MAF (for some unknown reason) and that Doug had never seen a SW0090 car manifest this phenomenon, I went to Camberley and they did the SW0090 update for me.

Cured the my particular problem even though I had no cold-starting issues.

FWIW.

I will add, that there was other SW updated, (im not sure what and how many other updates there was) im guessing SW0050.SW0060.SW0070,SW0080,SW0090??? yes, no, if so, then the later would incorporate all of these, any body confirm?

As my car was produced in 2006, it came with SW0040, updated at 80 and 90. later cars came with SW0050. the unrestricted variant sold to German customers was SW0030. answered my own questions there.

Had SW updated from 0080 to 0090 last week and the different cold start strategy is immediately noticeable even in this hot spell.

Initial rpm is higher, exhaust noise (in Sport mode) is louder and running is much smoother.
