New Owner - Seat issue

Post by PeteS4 » Fri Apr 09, 2010 9:26 am

I picked up the new motor last weekend from the local Audi stealer. It is a Nov 06 Sprint Blue Avant with 30K on the clock. What a car. I drove one when I ordered my 3.2 MK2 TT in 2006, and I thought I will have one someday. And that day has arrived :D

Unfortunately, it doesn't have the flat bottom steering wheel :(

It does have the buckets though. When I test drove the car, the seats were very squeaky when cornering, which was quite annoying. This is due to the force the body puts on the side vertical bolsters. The guy said he woud sort it out before collection. Upon collection he said they had oiled the mechanism, but they are still the same. I see you can take the side panels at the the back of the seat off. So I am sure it would be easy enought to sort out the squeaks.

Has anybody else had squeaky buckets? If so, have you managed to remove the squeaks?

Another thing, one of the tyres has a couple of small chunks removed near where the tyre meets the alloy. Obviously done by the previous owner. The alloy is perfect, so I assume it has been refurbed. There is no wire showing and the tread is fine. Would you accept this?

Apart from that, extremely pleased with the new beast. Sprint Blue avants are the best 8)

Thanks,

Pete

My buckets don't squeak so can't help there...

It sounds like the previous owner kerbed the wheel & it has had a "smart repair" but the existing tyre is still on the wheel. I would imagine it is fine as long as it is the rim protector rather than the sidewall that is damaged but would be worth making a fuss about to see if you can get some new tyres.

Welcome. Good choice also.

I find the main source of the squeek is that seat 'pushing' against the centre armrest rather than something within the seat itself. Annoying though.

Re the tyres, I thought they became illegal when you had chunks missing out of them?

...'sprint blue avants are the best' thats true :P

My buckets give me a pain in the arse, (lower back)- after a couple of hours in the saddle... :biggrin2:

It seems that the vertical sides bolster at the door side does have a slight bit of play in it. I suppose this is due to the driver getting in & out and putting pressure on the bolster. You can apply a bit of pressure on the bolster and the squeak occurs.

Yes, it is the rim protector area where the chunks have been taken out. I am taking to car back on Monday, so will see what happens.
