Anyone use Homelink on their car? Good or not?
Anybody had it retrofitted ? If so by Audi or other (CraigyB maybe?) - rough idea of cost?
Any opinions appreciated.

Costs are huge IIRC £600+ in total for visor and more importantly to fit the transponder in the front bumper (bumper off job).

Fair play if you have the money but me I had better things to spend the money on and stuck with my garage remote fob on key

Cheers PG - that price is what I was fearing. Unless there's a cheaper way (I wondered if maybe CraigyB might do something!) then I'll probably stay as is - 600 notes is not to be scoffed at.

Why not buy one of the buttons for garage door from that web-site then gut out your remote & wire it to the button ?

I did similar in my old car by soldering a new button with extension leads to the remote then stashed the remote behind the dash but easy to get to if needed a new battery - worked well & would be really neat with one of those buttons.

I did look into this, however it does create weak point in the garage alarm system, if you have it alarmed up to your house system, you will need to find a way to bypass house alarm before garage door opens, i.e. a touch panel at bottom of drive. my 2 pence worth.

It's possible but the major cost of the price I was quoted however is wiring and fitting the transponder in the bumper, the visor cost was only circa £200 to give you example of the £600 quoted

We have a the garage door set as an entry point with a delay on it & a key pad in the garage so can open, drive in & turn off the alarm. That said, I usually park & then take stuff into house, turn alarm off then put the car away (garage is separate to the house) as like to take my time parking !

Button would be very neat for the outward journey as usually don't have to set the alarm afterwards...

OK. my house is like fortknox, garage door set up on instant alarm, primary for the car not the contents of the house lol was advised not to go ahead with it. but it would be fine as you say in your situation. I would love home link. just drive up to house, drive in close door behind! I look and watch my neighbour with envy when he does this esp in the rain.

If your garage is big enough to drive straight in then I would be tempted to have a delay added as realistically how many burgulars would hand around on the off-chance the alarm delay was say 30 seconds or even a minute - could always lock door to house if would feel better ?

I reverse in & is tight so don't bother "racing" the alarm as think it will end in some panel damage !
