Can anyone recommend an alternative to Audis standard discs and pads for the RS4 B7. I have just been quoted £820 for replacement rear discs and pads, which seems a little excessive. Any ideas much appreciated.

That's the standard price. Virdee or Phillipwalker may be able to do you a better price who are traders on here or look at fleabay occasionally.

Otherwise VAG TPS if you have one near you.

Ring round Audi dealerships, Not sure where you are but Wakefield discounted them to £713.00 and York did them for £700. If you supply the disks and pads yourself I'm not sure how that stands getting the 2 year warranty on them with Audi

Wouldn't trust them if they've been skimmed IMHO. I picked up a new set for £250 off fleabay.

I've had three front sets skimmed and they were in perfect condition when they were returned. Plenty of supercar manufacturers and motorsports teams have skimming facilities rather then opting for new discs every time.

You were lucky getting a set for £250, they don't come up that often. Plenty of fronts but few rears.

Have never really thought about getting them skimmed as a pair of front discs for my previous cars have never come to anything more than £300.

We have a machine shop as part of our workshop (We're an offshore services company) where I could get them machined FOC.
Does it need to be any particular type of machine or would the ones we use to manufacture pins, bushes, spacers etc be adequate?
What kind of tolerances / run out are we talking about for an 'as new' finish?

I'd easily stump up the money for OEM pads but another £500 - £600 over and above for discs seems a bit much.

Put it tis way, it costs me £50-80 to have discs skimmed per axle dependent on whether it so done with an on hub lathe or them taken off as opposed to £450 for new discs and from new they could be skimmed up to 4 times and still be within tolerance.

The only thing with the fronts being floating is you have to be pretty handy with a lathe and surface polisher not to have them wobbling around. Rears are fixed one piece so easier.

Been doing some digging around and it appears that most disc manufacturer specify a maximum runout of 0.1mm. This is pretty consistent amongst them.
