I just look back to top gear when clarkson raced the mountain climber up the mountain and back down. I was sold,i was a apprentice bricklayer earning £150 per week with a newborn and lived in a council house. I remember telling her we will have one of them baby xx. Took a long time to get one i must say and a long time to afford the maintance and running cost of one. 12 years and it was the only car i ever got exited to see. To me the car is a classic, from the beeps of outher audi rs4 and rs6 drivers in newer more capable models but the appreciation they show when they see it. Even when the 1.1 corsa revs up at the light and wheel spins away and you let him win. The smiles of passers by when they see you in the car on there daily commute on foot to work, whispering RS4 as they look at you. Done well this year new build house to keep the Wife happy and got a Rs4, its a classic to me and cant wait to hit 200k on the clock and still be running like new and people like wow that car is like 20+years old and its a V8. Just hope there is still fuel then :)
Amen to this! Drive them and enjoy them...can't beat the B7 RS4, V8 manual, but am so biased because I LOVE mine..

Great summary, I feel exactly the same.

I was 19 when they came out and I watched that Top Gear episode. My friends dad had one from new in Sprint Blue and I adored it. I said to myself I would love to own one of those one day and now I do and I love every minute I spend in it. I am also very fortunate to be in a position that I can afford to maintain it properly and petrol is not really an issue as I moved to Australia and it costs $1.30 (71p) a litre for premium fuel.

I too have had people approach me and ask about it and have watched people walk round it while I get a coffee and admire the interior, for those that know it is a very special car and one I feel incredibly lucky to own.

It is also incredibly rare over here in Australia making it even more special.

Will the B7 RS4 become a classic?

Post by AlexB7RS4 » Sat Feb 16, 2019 3:51 am

Been thinking about this recently myself. I'm at a point where it's a decision to sell or just hang on to it. A vehicle like a VW Amarok would suit my lifestyle better. I don't drive it that hard, is just a daily. It's pretty expensive to maintain (though I can afford it).

My ideal would be to buy a V6 Amarok and a weekender. Maybe keep the RS4 as a toy? But it doesn't make a lot of sense as a toy, the Avant is so good because it's such an amazing all rounder, but it is still a big wagon at the end of the day. If I were to have a toy I'd be better off with a similar age 911, M3 or maybe a newer Cayman.

But I love the RS4, and I've seen the B5s skyrocket in the last few years. When I bought my B7 in 2016, they were $30k Aus. Now they seem to be going for 70+. Are B7s also about to start rising then?

I've just bought one and both dealers I went to had them tucked away out the back with classic Porsches and were in no rush at all to sell them. They both informed me that the prices are on the way up on a monthly basis in the Glass' guide.

Will the B7 RS4 become a classic?

Yeah it seems likely to me they will rise. The people who lusted after these in their teens and 20s (like me, frankly) 12 years ago are starting to come into money.

In another 10 years those same people will have more money, the nostalgic effect will be stronger, and RS4s will be rarer.

(Edit: just re-read the top part of the thread. Funny how someone said the same thing 9 years ago, but in a future tense!)

In addition, the car is also aging very well. The shape is classic, there are not many cars out there that can pull off the stance of a B7 RS4.

Maybe I do just need to get a daily and park the RS for weekends.

Depends upon your mileage, I guess. I work from home and only clock up about 5k p.a., so will carry on using it as main car. If I did 30k p.a., that would be a very different thing.

160k on mine now and full respray planned starting in April to address a few bodywork issues, mostly the rear arches.

No plans to sell my one either as love it to bits. These cars have real character and are involving to drive.

Will try and get some pictures up once the work starts.

I don't know if 'classic' is the right word but they will be desireable.
10,000 made
2000 in the US/Canada
There were 50,000 e46 M3's sold in the US
So the RS is rare in a country where over 17 mil cars/trucks are sold annually
A stock, non-modded, well maintaned example even more so
I'm contemplating buying another before prices start to climb

For sale in Autotrader US
RS4 46
e46 M3 207
In a country of 330 million

You really should buy another one if only to exercise your left leg again!

Not much said about the cabriolet. Given the nature of the car and with only ~300 imported to the US in only one year, I should think it should be approaching “classic” status. When I took my recently acquired model to the local Audi dealer (California), the response from everyone from the receptionist to the service manager was, “Wow! We’ve never seen one of these.”
