Will the B7 RS4 become a classic?

Post by Sims » Thu Feb 04, 2010 9:03 pm

Ok guys, probably the wrong forum to post on. :)

But do you think that 5 or 10 years down the line, the B7 RS4 will be as respected/desired/valued as the RS2 & the B5 RS4.

NO not imo, too many made for that, don't get me wrong it's a great motor but just not going to be a cult classic like the B5.

Maybe, however it is mass produced to 10000 units. if the next RS4 is blown, then this RS4 will be the only N/A RS4 so will be special in that way.

It will never be as classic as the RS2, this being the most beautiful RS to ever be produced, almost every car manufacture have replicated parts from it ever since, The B5 again is a awesome car and a classic (400 units, confirm??), the B7 obviously had more choices in body shapes, this will make it less chance of being a Future classic imo

But it is a beloved car that will attract buyers for years to come and will still hold its value.

With the number ending up at scrap yards as accident or insurance write off's at present the sight of a B7 RS4 may become rarer with time.

Perhaps but I'll just enjoy mine in the meantime.

I think 2000 cars were made, and UK list was circa £45k, and the best ones are on offer at £15k today.

That's still huge depreciation. Maybe none of the Audi RS cars are classics like the Porsche RS's or the classic M's from BMW.

Good points, but doubt will hold value as well as an RS2 or the B5 RS4.

..yeah.. not biased or anyfink :D

I think the biggest problem with the B7 is that it doesn't have a Porsche (RS2) or Cosworth (RS4) involved in its development.

Good question...

Classic - certainly not. Neither rare enough nor groundbreaking enough (unlike the RS2 and B5) and I'll take the looks of either over the B7
Legend - perhaps not (unlike later Integrales etc.)
Benchmark - quite possibly

Lets compare the TTRS to the B7 RS4...I know what one has more chance of being a future classic lol

Evo Magazine seems to think it'll be a classic. Current edition, page 111. :-)

and i'm not really reading too much into the volume argument either, in some circles, cars like XR3i / RS Turbos are considered classics and there were squillions of them built! I suppose it depends on what you believe makes a car a classic.

The E30, E46 or the E92?
Well I guess I meant the E46 as it was up against B7 when launched.

I'm only playing anyway, the fact a B7 can get even close to an M3 dynamically and keeping doing it in rain and snow is sensational.
But perfection doesn't make classic status so let's keep going..
