Ceramics were an expensive option, and also were not available to order until mid- or late- 2006 (I couldn't order them when I placed my order in Jan 2006).

i also read on here somewhere that they were of no use on the roads OR track !!!! With my experience from the 997 they deffinatly are ! On the RS4 on the road they perfom well when cold and really hot (apart from a minor air bubble i got in the system), on the track in the 997 i can get them glowing ! so a message to the person who says they are no good or poinless on the track, your not driving hard enough !!!!

Probably think that what the post person meant were that the normal brakes were more suitable for normal road driving - from cold, in the winter etc etc.

After all , why do the big race teams in car and bikes run cast iron discs when its cold and wet?

All down to cost I guess. Cheaper to exchange them out per race, explains why the Audi experience days have steels.

Beats me! Perhaps the regs don't permit them......

Seriously though, the latest ceramics are streets ahead of the early versions that didn't work when cold. Audis systems is top notch and generally works well in all conditions. The unsprung weight saving is also a significant benefit.

Anyone know what the weight saving is?

One issue that may have restricted their takeup in countries other than the UK is that the ceramics can only be fitted with 19" wheels. In the UK 19" wheels were the standard on RS4s, but in most other countries 18" were standard and 19" were a cost option - further increasing the cost of ceramics.

I have seen a pic showing 2 size's of ceramic discs for the B7, I assumed one was for 19's the other 18s, however this contradicts what I have also read elsewhere stating that you could only order them if you had 18s....
