I just recently bought my 2007 RS4 and after a month of driving the usual knocking sounds occurred. I took the car to my Audi mechanic and yes it was the DRC (rear right). Because i bought the car 1 month ago the repair is under warranty, but the dealer insists on only changing one damper since only one of them is broken. I Read somewhere that the UK dealers change them per axle, is this right? I stink at the search function so i can't find anything about it. I was told that the dampers are connected diagonal and not on the axles, is this correct?
Should I insist on them changin 2,3 or 4 dampers or be satisfied with 1?

I was under the impression you had to do them all !

Ideal is to replacing opposing connected shocks but if the opposing non leaking ones intergrity is in place then it is not necessary.

If that theory was applied when both my fronts were replaced the rears should have been but they were not and to date (touch wood) they are still fine.

So can you guys confirm that there is no problem caused by driving with a faulty DRC? I'm having the same problem but can't get into service for a couple weeks and need to do some driving beforehand. Also, because the DRC problem is so common has Audi said the RS4 had faulty DRC in the first place or is this something that people have had to have fixed multiple times?

There is a problem driving with faulty drc.if it were to totally depressurise whilst driving it in effect knocks out your shocks and suspension,mine totally blew when i went over a speed hump at about 15 mph,the pictures were posted on here over a year ago,if you have it repaired it will go again,audi offer a 5 year warranty,all this means is they will keep repairing it until the times up,go and get KW v3's fitted end of problem.Dont drive with the drc faulty,shame really because this blights a very good car,of all the cars i've had this was my favourite i now have a Cls AMG but miss the RS.

and that's what the service bulliten in the States says
replace diagonal pairs

if one has leaked, the other is going to be worn/damaged because there is less pressure...it also says the associated central valave must be replaced

Does fitting the KW v3's affect any of the warranty you may have or are Audi quite happy that you've had it done and won't be pestering them anymore?

Audi still serviced the car, i had hotchkiss arb's fitted as well,obviously they won't warrant any after market parts but secretly the audi tech agreed this was the way to go,at crawley audi they actually fitted a set that a mate supplied to his b7RS4.So the answer is yes and yes//////

The techs are good when it comes to modding, and norm kee it from the warranty department. however dealership dependants.

I have had good relations so far with the techs and have had warranty work carried out since iv modded my car.

ArthurPE, can you send me a link to the service bulletin you mentioned. I'm not finding it anywhere online.

Hi guys just had mine replaced, they replaced 3! been fine since. Reading Audi completed the works.
