Emission control system light

This morning the emission control light came on.
Called the dealer and they asked if the car was driving ok – I said yes seems to be but I’m not exactly pushing it hard.
Next appointment isn’t until Monday and I was told that it will be ok to drive it until then. Probably shouldn’t ask as there isn’t much I can do about it now, but is this correct?
I won’t be ragging it from now on obviously, but it is my only car so I need to drive it every day.

An unresolved can of worms for me too....

No answer to why, but it comes on, sometimes with the EPC, sometimes with the traction control, or any combination. Clearing the fault codes will get rid of them but so far I have not been able to discover why they are there!

I have been driving around with the Emission control system light on for two weeks now, the other day it just went off and stayed off...

Absolutely no help to you apart from knowing you are not the only one!

Well lets hope the stealer finds out what it is on mine - got an extended warranty so no worries over ££.
First problem i have had on the beast.

i have tried a few "shutdown restarts" with no luck. There are no mods to the car like exhaust etc .

Dont know if this helps but on my last car(subaru) it used to come on after a hard push in 5th gear, just left it and it would go off by itself later on after what i bielive was the maf re assessing itself.

I had mine come on last month for 2 weeks before I got it into the dealer. Engine seemed normal but it was due a service. Had the service. Dealer reset the system, had some fault codes. Did a software update. Been fine now for a few weeks.

The light light could mean any number of things like Cat problem, coil pack, faulty sensor etc. Has to go to dealer.

Best of luck and don't worry. It might not be that big a deal.

Thanks for the responses - doesnt seem to be a problem to continue to drive the car so i will just take it easy the next few days.

Have you called out Audi Roadside (extended warranty). these guys will run a diagnostic and can replace failed coil packs at the road side.

On that, I believe Audi are changing contracts with RAC, so we may not see the "Grey Audi roadside" RAC van any more but will get the "Orange RAC" van as part of the RR, the later can not carry out as many road side repairs.
Also I was informed that the diagnosis machine can be hooked up to a wireless internet connection, that when connected to your ECU it can upload information, such as Re-maps, this information will the notify the warranty department and make your warranty void. I had ARR come out mid year and the mechanic turned off the live updates as to stop this from happening. he told me this information. any one confirm?

Well apparently it is the secondary air sensor is reading a low air flow - something that needs a dealer fix, not a carpark job. No worries for driving it until Monday just might up my contribution to greenhouse gas for a few days.

I have to say - the audi roadside assistance is a superb service. Very polite on the phone - including a call-back from the call centre saying that they will have someone out before i leave work and then calls from the engineer half hour before arrival. He was very friendly and more than happy to describe the exact issue.

At least we get great roadside assistance for our £1250!!

In my opinion if it hasnt stayed on then you should be ok? But i guess to be safe I would call the dealer to log the incident and get their advice. That way if they tell you it will be ok - if it should lead to something later on then you would be covered rather than on what we say on the forums?
