I've only had the car a few months but this is the 3rd time I've found water inside the boot lid, I've checked the forum and found thisis a common issue with these motors, went into the local dealers today and basically was told that they have only heard of this once before, mentioned that I had done some research and its a common fault, but as the car is over the 3 years warrenty, they would not entertain me, quite dissapoinying for a car of this value!!

Anyway, what I would like to know is, is it the seals round the rear lights on the boot lid that leak, if so I can fix the problem easily.

Kenny it is the seals around the tail lights in the boot lid that leak. I am waiting for mine to be repaired, very common issue, the dealer you went to are idiots!
What are you planning to do, may be worth contacting Audi UK as they may be more reasonable with you.................. then again maybe not.

Second that, leaking seals around the tail lights is a very common B6/B7 fault.

Just about to get the car into my garage and remove the bootlid panel, see what I've got, cant imagine it would take much more than some sealant round the existing seals to fix it.

Will keep you informed.

Check the seals around the rear lights - it's usually that and NOT the bootlid seal.

Ok,

Very simple job, bootlid panel was easily taken off and both lighs removed, both seals looked in good condition, although they are just thin foam flat seals and the bolt tightning arrangement is not the best as it has a system that doesn't allow you to over tighten the lights down and crack the lenses, which is good for the lenses but not great if you need a little tweek to get the seals to seal.

Just added a good depth of clear sealant round the seal area and fitted back on the lights, you can see the sealant oozing between the seal and the bootlid, so it should cure any problems from that area.

Time will now tell if it was the light cluster.

Well a week later with lots of rainy days and no sign of anymore water getting into the bootlid, so good result!

I've also heard water in my boot lid not loads but definately some, took it into Audi, warranty covers it but have to wait until the parts arrive.

Not sure if you were aware, but there was a recall on the boot area in way of battery tray. Maybe the water is seeping up from this area?

This is 100% light seal related, the boot recall is on the actual boot floor, the lid is a separate 'sealed' unit.

Has anyone had any success claiming off extended Audi warranty? I can see it coming "sorry sir rubber seals are perishable items - not covered"

I've had mine done on the approved used Warranty, but guess what, still can hear some water in boot lid. Going to have to take it back again. Also have a small amount of water in the boot well, and the battery area has been sealed already.

I know this is an old post and it hasn't rained for a while, but as I've just joined I thought add my 2p worth for anyone else that may have the same problem.
I bought my RS4 in Dec last year and at first the bootlid used to raise automatically when I pressed the button on the keyfob. Until one day it didn't and on investigation the bootlid was full of water - you could hear it sloshing around inside, presumably it had been like this for 3 years and the PO never got it sorted .
The car's on Audi's extended warranty and after searching on this forum I was convinced it was the seals on the light cluster. The dealership duly changed them for the newly modified / updated ones without fuss.
A week later - same problem. Car went back in and they used panel sealant this time to seal the intermittant seam welds between the inner and outer panels. This did the trick (It's a pity though that they only did the left side, requiring a third visit to get the right side done because water was still leaking in).

All's good now though.

It took 4 attempts totalling over 3 weeks in the dealers to stop the water ingress into my boot lid. It seems to me alright now but I have little faith anymore.
